Whitby's Vaculik back in fine form

Gemini gymnast Kristina Vaculik capped a remarkable return to
major international competition with her second gold medal in as
many days on Sunday at the DTB Gymnastics World Cup in Cottbus,
Germany. After winning gold and silver on uneven bars and vault on
Saturday, the 17-year-old Whitby resident tied Poland's Marta
Pihan-Kulesza for gold in Sunday's floor final and earned her
second silver of the meet on beam behind Russia's Tatiana
Solovyeva. >>

Yuxiang (CHN) was crowned 2010 Asian Junior Champion today thanks
to a sterling performance in the men's trampoline final at the
Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. Cheng Haopeng (CHN) captured the
silver medal, whereas Ginga Munemoto (JPN) claimed the bronze
medal.

Chinese gymnast Dong Fangxiao has sworn her potential New Zealand
employers to silence as she tries to make a new life in the
Waikato. The Huntly Gym Club wants to hire the Olympic medallist
as a coach and has applied for $11,500 of funding from Waikato
District Council to buy equipment and $10,000 to pay for her

Chinese team cruised through the women's and men's preliminaries
of the Asian Junior Championships that took place yesterday and
today in Chiba, Japan. In the women's, Dong Yu (CHN) took the lead
over Liu Lingling (CHN) and Wu Chuwen (CHN). In the women's, Cheng
Haopeng (CHN) claimed the first place over He Yuxiang (CHN) and Ge

perhaps abused and now tossed away. Chinese officials' treatment
of Olympic gymnast Dong Fangxiao, found to have been underage when
China fielded her at the Sydney Games in 2000, really makes the
blood boil. Despite China's official denials, accumulating
evidence that Dong was just 14 when she competed on the team that
won Olympic bronze now includes her personal CV, which says she
was born Jan. 23, 1986. >

Coca-Cola to be sponsor of Delhi

Coca-Cola today agreed to become the official beverages partner of
the Commonwealth Games, which are due to open in New Delhi on
October 3. The announcement of the deal, which was signed to
coincide with 200 days to go until the Opening Ceremony, is a
major boost for Indian officials who continue to come under fire
for their slow pace in getting facilities ready for the Games.
