Well done, Jen!

March 26, 2010 (IOL): It was a magnificent moment for KwaZulu-Natal and the country when Umbilo gymnast Jennifer Khwela became the first South African to win a gold medal at the International Gymnastics Federation Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series in Doha, Qatar, this week. The quiet 18-year-old beat 67 gymnasts from around the world in the women's vault on Tuesday, dominating in the qualification round on Monday. She went on to win the bronze medal in the beam category, and came in sixth on the floor. > Read more …

 

 

China on top of the world

March 25, 2010 (The Pensinsula): Chinese gymnasts yet again hogged the limelight by plundering four gold medals on the final day of the Third Artistic Gymnastics FIG World Cup yesterday. The Chinese brigade topped the medals table with six gold medals, three silver and bronze medals each for a total of 11 medals. In all there were 10 golds at stake in his edition of the World Cup.

Jennifer Khwela vaults to gold at Doha World Cup

March 25, 2010 (Sowetan): Jennifer Khwela from Umbilo in Durban claimed the gold medal in the women’s vault yesterday at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG’s) Artistic Gymnastics World Cup A competition. Khwela’s achievement came as no surprise as she qualified first in the vault, fractionally ahead of Croatian Tijana Tkalcec. Chinese gymnasts sparkle

March 24, 2010 (The Peninsula): China won four medals including two golds to dominate at the Third Artistic Gymnastics FIG World Cup at the Aspire Dome yesterday. In the men’s section, Yuguo Huang won Floor event gold medal while Quishuang Huang claimed women’s category gold in Uneven Bars event. Qatar’s Nasser enters final

March 23, 2010 (The Peninsula): Qatar’s Nasser Al Hamad qualified for the final of the Vault apparatus category on the opening day of the third FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup here at the Aspire Dome yesterday. Jordan, South Africa Win First World Cup Titles

March 23, 2010 (International Gymnast): Jordan's Ali Al Asi and South Africa's Jennifer Khwela made history with their nation's first gymnastics World Cup titles at the Doha World Cup held Tuesday. Al Asi, 22, won the gold medal on still rings, a first for a Jordanian gymnast. He has two previous World Cup silvers, including a recent second place at the Gymnix World Cup in Montreal. Khwela won women's vault, the first World Cup title for a South African gymnast.

FIG World Cup set to start today

March 22, 2010 (The Peninsula): Qatar’s young gymnasts are hoping to qualify for the final stages of the Third Doha Artistic Gymnastics FIG World Cup which will get under way at the Aspire Dome today. The three-day event has attracted some of the world’s best gymnasts and also includes talented local gymnasts. Jacques Rogge vows tough line on age, drug cheats

Anti-doping agencies push for criminal sanctions

March 23, 2010 (Associated Press): A leading anti-doping campaigner is urging the Chinese government to legislate for criminal sanctions for drug cheats in sports.
