Sports heroes honoured
March 5, 2010 (Liverpool City Council):
The cream of Liverpool's sporting talent
were celebrated at the city's 16th Sporting Honours Award Ceremony
last night (March 4). In front of a star studded audience at
Liverpool Town Hall some of the most famous names in sport toasted
those who have made the biggest impact over the past 12 months at
national and international competitions.
A special award was given to City of Liverpool gymnast Beth
Tweddle, who became a world champion for an unprecedented second
time at the 2009 World Gymnastics Championships in London last
October for an immaculate performance on the floor, while the city
will also paid tribute to the sporting achievements of more than
70 athletes over the past year. >>

sponsorship deal with Wild Rose Gymnastics Invitational

This weekend, Worcester, Mass., is the place to be for gymnastics.
On Friday night (March 5), 36 of the nation’s top Junior Olympic
gymnasts take the floor in the 2010 Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup,
and on Saturday, a combination of the world’s top gymnasts and
rising stars including nine 2008 Olympians and four 2009 World
medalists go head-to-head in the 2010 Tyson American Cup, the
United States most prestigious invitational.

Elite Canada

(Examiner): 2008 Olympian Nathan
Gafuik overcame mistakes on floor and vault to win the Elite
Canada meet, held this past weekend in Alymer, Quebec. Gafuik, 24,
led 2004 Olympian Ken Ikeda and Hugh Smith after the first day of
competition. During Sunday's finals, Gafuik posted the highest
total score as well as the best scores on high bar (15.25) and
rings (14.35).

on Saturday expressed strong regret to International Gymnastics
Federation (FIG)'s sanction on former Chinese artistic gymnast

Rogge Hails Vancouver Games Legacy

Sport Briefing): The Vancouver 2010
Winter Olympics overcame early tragedy and teething problems to
ultimately leave a positive legacy, according to International
Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge. Georgian luger
Nodar Kumaritashvili died in a training accident hours before the
opening ceremony to cast a shadow over the Games. The Games
organising committee (VANOC) also had to contend with a number of
organisational glitches and weather-related problems in the early
stages. However, Rogge, speaking as the curtain came down on the
2010 Games on Sunday night, was full of praise for the passion of
