champion Daiane dos Santos of Brazil has received a five month
suspension for testing positive for banned diuretic furosemide
last July, the International Gymnastics Federation

Birmingham 2010: First Figures released; Media
Accreditation opened!

(British Gymnastics): The European
Championships in Artistic Gymnastics for Senior and Junior Men and
Women will take place at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham
from 21st April until 2nd May 2010. Interest in this event is
progressively increasing because it will be the first opportunity
to see Senior Team competitions since Beijing 2008. With only two
years left to London 2012, these Championships will provide a good
indication about the latest developments with regard to teams,
individuals and trends in the sport.

Olympian's training conditions branded "a joke"

Nottingham's brightest medal hopes is training for the 2012
Olympics in "unacceptable conditions". Becky Downie, 17, from
Hucknall, is Britain's top gymnastics all-rounder and finished an
amazing 12th when she competed at the Beijing Olympics 18 months
ago. Yet the gym where she trains, at Rushcliffe Leisure Centre,
has suffered from broken heating, outdated equipment and

in '10 Winter Cup

Olympic horizontal bar silver-medalist Jonathan Horton of Houston
and his 2008 Olympic team bronze-medalist teammates Alexander
Artemev of Lakewood, Colo., and Kevin Tan of Fremont, Calif., are
among the 136 male gymnasts currently in the field for the 2010
Winter Cup Challenge, Feb. 4-6, at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Sports
Center. Five members of the 2009 World Championships team are also
entered, including Tim McNeill of Falls Church, Va., who was
seventh in the all-around finals. In addition, 11 members of the
senior national team and 13 gymnasts on the junior national squad

Guadalajara withdraws 2014 Youth Games bid

(Sports Features): Guadalajara
officially withdrew its candidature to host the 2014 Youth Olympic
Games today citing financial obligations with the Pan American
Games. Two candidates remain in the bid race Nanjing, China and
Poznan, Poland. Mexico’s second largest city will host the Pan
American Games continental event in 2011 and the governor of the
state of Jalisco, Emilio Gonzalez Marquez, said that tight
finances had forced the decision and the need to stay on track for
the preparations for next year’s event.
