Anti-doping
agency approves 'athlete's passport'
December 2, 2009 (AFP):
The World Anti-doping Agency (WADA)
on Wednesday approved its 'athlete's passport' scheme, which
allows sporting authorities to detect doping by studying an
athlete's biological profile. "It is a great step forward. It is
not the end of all our problems, but it is another tool," said
WADA president John Fahey. Contrary to traditional anti-doping
techniques which involve looking for traces of banned substances

abnormal variations in the athlete's biological profile.

Olympics): In the run-up to the 1984
Summer Games in Los Angeles, several female runners launched a
court challenge against Olympic officials in the United States and
abroad, claiming the decision not to include women's 5,000- and
10,000-metre events amounted to illegal discrimination. […] While
ski jumping and Nordic combined are restricted to men, the Summer
events of synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics only
include women. Others such as boxing were off-limits to women
until very recently, and there are still differences between the
men's and women's components of the same events. >>
