from five nations won gold Wednesday as the 2nd Doha Gymnastics
World Cup concluded in Qatar. The Doha World Cup was the final
major international competition before the 2009 World
Championships, Oct. 13-18 in London.
China was the only double winner Wednesday, with victories from Hu
Yuhong on balance beam and Dong Zhendong on parallel bars. >>

New Sponsor

International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has agreed a new
sponsorship deal with VTB Bank in an agreement that will see the
Russian company commit financial support to FIG development
programmes on all five continents. VTB already sponsors sport
federations such as basketball, volleyball and athletics and the
partnership is part of its international vision for the sport of
gymnastics, which enjoys a strong history within Russia. >

Gymnasts from Yemen, Portugal arrive for event

(Gulf Times): The Aspire Academy,
which is scheduled to host the second Artistic Gymnastics World
Cup from September 28-30 saw gymnasts from Yemen and Portugal hit
the training area on Wednesday to prepare for the prestigious
event. Yemen’s Nashawan Haider al Harazi who participated in 2008
Beijing Games was the first to arrive to get a feel of the
training area. Al Harazi was accompanied at the training area by
his teammate Mohamed Wahib Sharif who, too, looked eager to excel
in this world-class event.

Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) chairman
Sebastian Coe has hailed today's announcement of a multi-million
pound sponsorship deal by payment card giant Visa for Britain's
1,200 Olympic and Paralympic athletes as "a ground-breaking moment
for British sport". Visa will become the presenting partner of
Team 2012, which was launched at the Olympic Park today, in the
run-up to the London Games in three years' time. The money will go
towards filling a £50 million funding shortfall for Olympic and

Barack Obama will travel to Denmark this week to support Chicago's
bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Valerie Jarrett, a
senior adviser to the president, told The Associated Press Monday
morning that Obama will leave Thursday and join his wife,
Michelle, in Copenhagen, where they'll make the pitch to the
International Olympic Committee. Obama would be the first U.S.
president to take on such a direct role in lobbying for an

IOC To Keep Time With Omega

watchmaker Omega will remain a TOP sponsor of the International
Olympic Committee (IOC) through to 2020 after the two parties
announced an eight-year extension to their partnership on Friday.
The new agreement will extend Omega’s involvement in the Olympics
to 29 consecutive events, with the deal covering Sochi 2014 Winter
Games as well as the 2016, 2018 and 2020 editions, which are yet
to be awarded. As official timekeeper of the Games, Omega has
followed fellow TOP sponsor Coca-Cola in committing to the
