world championships

Novosti): Russia won the team gold
medal at the rhythmic gymnastic world championships in Japan on
Thursday. The team of Evgeniya Kanaeva, Olga Kapranova, Daria
Kondakova and Daria Dmitrieva received 282.175 points. Belarus
finished second with 262.825 points while Azerbaijan won the

Kanaeva dominates at rhythmic gymnastics worlds

Evgeniya Kanaeva of Russia won two more gold medals at the
rhythmic gymnastic world championships on Thursday. Kanaeva won
the ball and ribbon events Thursday, adding to the hoop and rope
gold medals she received Tuesday. Kanaeva received 28.575 points
in the final of the ball event and completed her sweep with 28.000
points for her routine in ribbon. >>

Evgeniya Kanaeva of Russia put herself in position to win another
gold medal at the rhythmic gymnastics world championships on
Wednesday, finishing first in qualifying for the individual ribbon
event. Kanaeva, who won two gold medals on Tuesday, received
28.425 points from the judges to finish first in qualification for

Beijing Olympics silver medalist China has
withdrawn due to an athlete's injury from the group competition of
the ongoing 29th rhythmic gymnastics world championships,
organizers said here Tuesday.
"One of our key gymnasts who have participated in the Beijing
Olympics, Sun Dan, suffered injury to her feet during a training
session Monday," confirmed Xia Yanfei, coach of the Chinese

Evgeniya Kanaeva will headline Russia's bid to maintain its

and Lu Chunlong (CHN), who beat a world record, triumphed in the
women's and men's individual finals of the World Cup held today in
Zielona Gora, Poland. In synchronized trampoline, the winners were
Yulia Domchevska-Elena Movchan (UKR) in the women's, and Masaki
Ito-Shunsuke Nagasaki (JPN) in the men's. With their gold medal,
Domchevska-Movchan have locked the final victory in the 2009 World
Cup Final Series. The tumbling competitions in Poland yielded gold

process to host the 2016 Olympic Games move into its final four
weeks, the voting criteria take on a different balance. This past
week's publication of the evaluation report, has made IOC members
fully aware of the risks and the challenges facing each bid.
All four cities -
Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo - are well capable of
hosting the Games but the voting process has become subjective
rather than technical so each bid team must go into lobbying
