Gymnastics: City of Liverpool gymnast Beth Tweddle to lead

September 10, 2009 (ICLiverpool): Beth Twedle will lead a 10-strong British team in next month’s World Gymnastic Championships at the O2 in London. Russian rhythmic gymnasts win team gold at world championships

September 10, 2009 (RIA Novosti): Russia won the team gold medal at the rhythmic gymnastic world championships in Japan on Thursday. The team of Evgeniya Kanaeva, Olga Kapranova, Daria Kondakova and Daria Dmitrieva received 282.175 points. Kanaeva dominates at rhythmic gymnastics worlds

September 10, 2009 (USA Today): Olympic champion Evgeniya Kanaeva of Russia won two more gold medals at the rhythmic gymnastic world championships on Thursday. Kanaeva won the ball and ribbon events Thursday, adding to the hoop and rope gold medals she received Tuesday. Olympic champion Kanaeva leads at rhythmic gymnastics world championships

September 9, 2009 (Associated Press): Olympic champion Evgeniya Kanaeva of Russia put herself in position to win another gold medal at the rhythmic gymnastics world championships on Wednesday, finishing first in qualifying for the individual ribbon event. U.S. men crack top five in Trampoline/Tumbling world rankings

September 8, 2009 (International Gymnast): Olympic champion Yevgenia Kanayeva (Russia) captured both golds Tuesday at the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Mie, Japan.

China withdraws from team event of rhythmic gymnastics worlds
September 8, 2009 (Xinhua): Beijing Olympics silver medalist China has withdrawn due to an athlete's injury from the group competition of the ongoing 29th rhythmic gymnastics world championships, organizers said here Tuesday.
"One of our key gymnasts who have participated in the Beijing Olympics, Sun Dan, suffered injury to her feet during a training session Monday," confirmed Xia Yanfei, coach of the Chinese rhythmic gymnastic team.  >>

Rhythmic gymnastics world championships kicks off in Japan

Russia starts well at rhythmic gymnastics worlds

September 7, 2009 (Associated Press): Olympic champion Evgeniya Kanaeva took the halfway lead during qualifying Monday, helping Russia to a strong start on the opening day of the rhythmic gymnastics world championships. Russia expected to dominate rhythmic gymnastics

September 6, 2009 (USA Today): Olympic champion Evgeniya Kanaeva will headline Russia's bid to maintain its dominance at the rhythmic gymnastics world championships. The 19-year-old Kanaeva won her first gold medal at the Beijing Olympics last year when Russia took top honors in both the individual and team events. Huang Shanshan and Lu Chunlong Winners of the 2009 Zielona Gora World Cup

September 5, 2009 (Acrobatic Sports): Huang Shanshan (CHN) and Lu Chunlong (CHN), who beat a world record, triumphed in the women's and men's individual finals of the World Cup held today in Zielona Gora, Poland. In synchronized trampoline, the winners were Yulia Domchevska-Elena Movchan (UKR) in the women's, and Masaki Ito-Shunsuke Nagasaki (JPN) in the men's. With their gold medal, Domchevska-Movchan have locked the final victory in the 2009 World Cup Final Series. Three Cities Move Forward With Youth Olympic Bids

September 7, 2009 (The Sport Briefing): Poznan (Poland), Nanjing (China) and Guadalajara (Mexico) on Friday stepped up their bids for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games by delivering their bid books for the event to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne. The three bids is a significant reduction on the number of cities that put themselves forward for next year’s inaugural event after Indonesia, Morocco and Turkey shelved their initial interest.

2016 Olympic host decision rest now on emotional element

September 5, 2009 (Sports Features): As the bidding process to host the 2016 Olympic Games move into its final four weeks, the voting criteria take on a different balance. This past week's publication of the evaluation report, has made IOC members fully aware of the risks and the challenges facing each bid.

IOC Member Leo Wallner resigns NOC presidency

September 4, 2009 (Sports Features): Amid doping and financial scandals being investigated within the Austrian national Olympic Committee the president has resigned. Wallner issued a statement Friday that he will be giving his resignation three weeks prior to an extraordinary general assembly scheduled to affront the issues.
