169 entries from 25 countries are recorded for the World Cup
event. The age group "Winobranie" International Tournament will be
held in parallel on September 3-4, 2009. One week after the Ostend
World Cup, the fourth leg of the 2009 World Cup Series will take
place at the MOSIR sports hall in Zielona Gora, Poland, on
September 4-5, 2009. The fifth and last World Cup of the World Cup

Former Blythe resident Arthur
Davis and his acrobatic gymnastics partner, Shenea Booth, were
inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame on Aug. 14.
Ceremonies were held in Dallas, Texas. Davis and Booth became the
first U.S. acrobatic gymnastics world champions in the mixed
pairs' event at the 2002 World Championships and then became the
first U.S. acro athletes to repeat as world champions when they
defended their title in 2004. >>

Tokyo's
Olympic Bid Lacking Local Backing - Report

(The Sport Briefing): Madrid’s bid
for the 2016 Olympic Games enjoys the strongest backing from the
country’s population of any of the four bid cities, with Tokyo
again lagging behind in the support stakes, according to the
findings of a new report. The global study, entitled “Sponsoring
21+”, has been conducted by sponsorship consultancy Sport+Markt,
and reveals that 93% of Spaniards support Madrid’s bid, closely
followed by the American support for Chicago (92%) and the
Brazilian support for Rio de Janeiro (89%). The Japanese are at
the bottom of the rankings as only 72% state that they find
Tokyo’s application “very good” or “good”. >>

Boosted As IOC Report Highlights Chicago Financial Fears

(The Sport Briefing): The
International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission’s
highly anticipated report on the candidate cities for the 2016
Olympics has raised numerous questions about the financial support
underpinning Chicago’s bid. The US city remains the bookmakers’
favourite to secure the hosting rights when the 106 IOC members
vote on the 2016 host in the Danish city of Copenhagen on October
2, and although the Commission's report is unlikely to be decisive
it could well influence some of the members.
