Brock prof overcomes hurdles in Namibia

chair of the Department of Physical Education and Kinesiology,
Klentrou arrived in Namibia last month for the International
Coaching Academy of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
FIG – with contributions from Klentrou – has established a
rhythmic gymnastics curriculum that focuses on the healthy growth

Universiade for Bessonova, Rising Star of Rhythmic Gymnastics
July 8, 2009 (FISU Media):
The Rhythmic Gymnastics competition is bound to start at the 25th
Summer Universiade in Belgrade. FISU Media went to the competition
venue to have a chat with the FISU Technical Chair for Rhythmic
Gymnastics, former Olympian (1984 & 1988) Josef Zellweger (SUI)
who has been one of the crucial persons to develop this sport at
the Universiade. FISU Media also talked to one of the competing
athletes: Anna Bessonova (UKR), one of the world stars of Rhythmic

Australian Championships
July 7, 2009
(International Gymnast): Samuel
Offord regained his all-around title Tuesday at the Australian
Men's Gymnastics Championships in Brisbane. The 23-year-old from
South Australia defeated 2008 Olympian Samuel Simpson (Queensland)
by more than three points, 86.450-83.150. Luke Wiwatowski of New
South Wales won the bronze with 82.350.

UB 2009 silver medallist on the pommel horse; Miloš PAUNOVIC (SRB),
UB 2009 all-round finalist and last but not least Jiang Yuyuan (CHN),
quintuple medallist at this Universiade ... and Olympic Champion

national gymnastics championships to be held in central China city

China's national gymnastics
championships will kick off on July 21 in Xiantao city, also known
as the "cradle of gymnastic champions" in central China's Hubei
province. Multiple world and Olympic champions Chen Fei, Zou Kai,
Huang Xu, and rising star Yang Yilin, also a gold medalist at last
year's Beijing Olympic Games, will compete in the six-day

Olympic champion takes gymnastics all-around gold at Universiade
July 4, 2009 (Xinhua):
Olympic champion Jiang Yuyuan led a Chinese 1-2 finish in the
gymnastics women's all-around event at the World University Games
here on Saturday. Jiang, a member of China's Beijing Olympics gold
medal-winning team, produced a consistent performance in vault,
uneven bars, beam and floor exercise to amass 57.050 points for
the title.

initial five countries, the International Inspiration programme

USOC's Olympic Network Development
July 9, 2009 (The
Sport Briefing): The International
Olympic Committee (IOC) has hit out at the US Olympic Committee’s
(USOC) decision to launch a new cable channel dedicated to the
Olympic Movement. In a statement released to The Sport Briefing on
Thursday evening, the IOC said that it was “disappointed that USOC
acted unilaterally” before “unresolved questions” had been
discussed and added that the move “raises complex legal and
contractual issues”.

USOC Unveils
US Olympic Network
July 8, 2009 (The
Sport Briefing): The US Olympic
Committee (USOC) and Comcast Corporation have entered into an
agreement to form the US Olympic Network (USON), the first-ever
cable television platform devoted solely to the Olympic Movement.
The new network will be delivered 24/7, 365-days-a-year and is
expected to launch in 2010 across various media platforms
including television, video on demand (VOD) and online.

CWG test
events dates finalised
July 9, 2009 (The
Hindu): The Sports Ministry and the
Organising Committee, Commonwealth Games, have finalised the dates
of test events in the run-up to the 2010 sporting extravaganza.
The scheduled time for the completion of most of the venues being
December this year, the test events will start from February 17.

Streamlines Asian Games And Approves Calendar Changes
July 5, 2009 (The
Sport Briefing): The Olympic Council
of Asia (OCA) approved a new streamlined Asian Games programme and
also confirmed two of its major events would be merged at a
historic general assembly on Friday. The OCA general assembly
approved plans to restrict the number of sports at future editions
of the Asian Games to 35 - including 28 Olympic sports and seven
non-Olympic disciplines - from the 2014 Games in Incheon, Korea.
The general assembly also approved a new cycle for the OCA's
events, with the Asian Indoor Games and Asian Martial Arts Games
being merged into a single multi-sports event to sit alongside the
Asian Games, Asian Winter Games, Asian Beach Games and Asian Youth
