Chinese
gymnasts show different class at Universiade
July 3. 2009 (Xinhua):
Olympians Cheng Fei and Jiang Yuyuan led Chinese gymnasts to an
overwhelming victory in women's team at the 25th Universiade on
Thursday. Spearheaded by Olympic champion team members Cheng and
Jiang, China collected an overall 169.150 points and an
extraordinary seven-point edge for the title, leaving Russia a far

Win University Games Title

highest scores in the all-around and on balance beam, 2008 Olympic
gold medalist Jiang Yuyuan led China to the team title Thursday as
the 25th University Games began in Belgrade, Serbia. A team of
Chinese all-stars crushed Russia by a seven-point margin of

Brock prof establishes rhythmic gymnastics
program in Namibia
July 3, 2009 (The
Tribune): A Brock University
professor has recently returned from Namibia, where she helped
establish rhythmic gymnastics programs that will ultimately
promote health, strength and self-esteem in the country’s
children. Nota Klentrou, professor and chair of the department of
physical education and kinesiology, travelled to Namibia June 6 to
15 for the International Coaching Academy of the International
Gymnastics Federation.

SA gymnasts
in safe hands
July 2, 2009 (The
Times): The South African gymnastics
contingent at the upcoming World Games in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan,
will be in safe hands. Of the more than 70-strong SA squad for
Games, three of them will compete in the various gymnastic
disciplines, Lebogang Ramokopelwa, Matthew Levy and Lucky Radebe.
One of the original choices, Stephanie Sandler, had to withdraw

gymnastics team visits Amherst gym

Telegraph): Twelve members of the
Turku Gymnastics team of Finland, their coaches and 26 parents
arrived in New Hampshire on June 15 to practice and learn in a
different country. They spent two weeks touring New England,
meeting others and working out with the gymnasts at Gymnastics

Egypt can
shine in the Med Games

Weekly): Egypt has the ability to do
well in the XVI edition of the 2009 Mediterranean Games in the
Italian seaside city of Pescara. With nine gold, eight silver and
eight bronze, Egypt is ranked sixth in the medals table. The 2009
Mediterranean Games runs from 26 June to 5 July in Pescara, on the
east coast of Italy in the Abruzzo region. The last Mediterranean
Games were held in Spain with 21 participating countries and more
than 3,000 athletes.

University Games kick off in Belgrade

Apart from the Olympic Games, the
Universiade is the second largest sporting competition worldwide
and the greatest ever sporting event to be held in Serbia. For 12
days almost 8,500 student sportsmen from 144 countries will
compete in 15 sports, such as athletics, wrestling, football,
basketball, volleyball, fencing, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics,
table tennis, archery, tennis, taekwondo and water polo.The
competition will be held in 35 sports venues. >>
