potential

The American gymnast of Indian
origin, Raj Bhavsar, is of the view that there is no reason why
India cannot be a force in gymnastics. The future appears bleak
when one takes a look at Indian gymnastics. Then, out of nowhere,
a ray of hope emerges. You are bound to develop some optimism when
you listen to somebody like Raj Bhavsar, an Olympic bronze
medallist gymnast from the USA.

competition celebrates fitness

other events are on display at the 2009 International Sport &
Cultural Festival at the Fort Worth Convention Center and
Farrington Field. The event is being hosted by the Fort Worth
chapter of Sokol, an international organization that helps
families keep fit.

Age-old
question: Chinese gymnasts under review
June 23, 2009
(Associated Press): Two Chinese
gymnasts suspected of being underage at the 2000 Olympics aren't
off the hook yet. The International Gymnastics Federation
announced Tuesday it has turned the investigation into Dong
Fangxiao and Yang Yun's eligibility over to its disciplinary
commission. The commission, established Friday, will give its
decision to the FIG's executive committee by the end of September,
at the latest.

FIG Pursues
Investigation into Yang, Dong
June 23, 2009
(International Gymnast): The
International Gymnastics Federation is pursuing its investigation
of 2000 Olympians Dong Fangxiao and Yang Yun (China) for possible
age violations. The federation announced Tuesday it had determined
the statute of limitations had not yet expired in the cases of the
gymnasts, and it will continue a "full investigation" into whether
either were younger than the minimum age of 16 at the 2000 Olympic
Games.

all-around title at the Dutch Gymnastics Championships, held
Saturday in Rotterdam. The 2009 Dutch Gymnastics Championships are
taking place at the Ahoy Arena, site of the 1987 and 2010 World

25 juin 2009 (Biladi) : La XVI-ème
édition des jeux méditerranéens qui s'ouvre vendredi dans la ville
italienne de Pescara (sur l'Adriatique) connaît la participation
de 23 pays, dont le Maroc qui concourt dans 16 disciplines.
A moins de vingt-quatre heures du jour "J",
le pays organisateur met les bouchées doubles pour tout mettre au
point, des équipes d'intervention continuant encore à s'affairer
dans des chantiers de voirie et d'aménagement de sites des jeux,
alors que la plupart des équipes sont déjà sur place au "village
méditerranéen" (situé dans la localité voisine de Chieti).

Olympic Day
celebrations staged worldwide

(Universal Sports): With the
International Olympic Committee expected to announce the
selections of the host city for the 2016 Summer Games in October,
Olympic Day celebrations took on heightened meaning for some of
the cities bidding to win the Games. Further, most of the more
than 205 National Olympic Committees organized special events to
