US-born Olympic medallist plans to guide Indian gymnasts

June 10, 2009 (Indian Express): It was the second most precious accomplishment for the US-born gymnast, Raj Bhavsar, as he gifted his life’s greatest achievement-Olympic Bronze medal-to his grandfather living in his hometown in Vadodara.

COC Selects Delegates to Attend International Olympic Academy

June 8, 2009 (News wire): The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) today announced that Olympians Alexandra Orlando and Anthony Wright have been selected to attend the 2009 International Olympic Academy (IOA). The 49th International Session for Young Participants begins June 10 and runs until June 24 in Olympia, Greece. Calgary gymnasts shine at nationals

June 7, 2009 (Calgary Herald): Two-time Olympian Ken Ikeda of Abbotsford, B. C., won two gold medals and Calgary's Nathan Gafuik earned gold on floor Saturday at the Canadian gymnastics championships in Hamilton. Sawa, Sandy Win Canadian Senior Titles

June 5, 2009 (International Gymnast): Sydney Sawa and Casey Sandy won the all-around titles Thursday at the Canadian Championships in Hamilton, Ont. Sawa, who will turn 17 on June 15, outscored preliminaries leader Cynthia Lemieux-Guillemette by 0.50 to earn her first Canadian title. Longtime Nebraska gym coach Allen retiring

June 5, 2009 (USA Today): Francis Allen says he knew it was time for him to start thinking about retirement a couple years ago when he presented his Nebraska gymnasts with season highlight videos he made himself. …
"It is almost impossible to measure the impact Francis has had, not only on the sport of gymnastics but also on the lives of many young men," USA Gymnastics president Steve Penny said. Triple joy for young acrobats

Tokyo 2016 meets Chicago 2016

June 10, 2009 (Sports Features): Tokyo 2016 ambassador Kanpei Hazama today paid a visit to the office of none other than Chicago 2016 chair Patrick Ryan. He was even joined by Tim Hill, Chair of the Osaka Sister City Committee in Chicago.

In a rare show of friendship for two rival cities vying to host the worlds’ biggest sporting event the Japanese comedian stopped in along the route of his 23,000 mile Earth Marathon to meet and greet the Chicago team.
