Burnett wins
men's senior trampoline title at Canadian gymnastics championships
June 2, 2009 (The
Canadian Press): Olympic medallist
Jason Burnett claimed his fourth consecutive men's senior
trampoline title in Monday's final at the Canadian gymnastics
championships. Burnett, of Toronto, opened up a huge lead in
Saturday's preliminaries and powered to the gold medal with a
final routine that included three triple somersaults for a total
score of 114.40 points.

Bhavsar wants to coach Indians

Statesman): The dormant state
of Indian gymnastics notwithstanding, the country has no dearth of
talent, says Indian-American Olympic bronze medallist Raj Bhavsar
(in photo), who wants to coach gymnasts here. “I would like to
coach the Indian gymnastics team if given a chance,” Bhavsar said.
“I have come with an open mind to give back whatever I have
achieved. It hasn't been easy for me to win the bronze and I would
like to share my experience with the guys and help them with

Gymnastics Hall of Fame inducts another five legends
June 1, 2009 (AIPS):
In a superb ceremony in Oklahoma City five
legends of international gymnastics were enshrined in the
International Gymnastics Hall of Fame which was founded by
long-time publisher Glenn M. Sundby.
The black-tie event was the 13th such ceremony since inception and
the new additions Octavian Bellu (Romania), Viktor Chukarin
(Ukraine), Dominique Dawes (U.S.A), Elvira Saadi (Uzbekistan) and
Vitaly Scherbo (Belarus) bring the total Hall of Fame membership
to 69 individuals from 20 countries.

(International Gymnasts): The host
nation won 10 medals — five gold — Saturday in the finals at the
"World Stars" Gymnastics World Cup in Moscow. Muscovite Yekaterina
Kurbatova was the most successful gymnast of the day with two gold
medals. The first-year senior won vault (Yurchenko double full,
stuck layout Podkopayeva) and tied for the gold on uneven bars (Shaposhinokova,
free-hip full, Tkatchev, Pak salto; Shaposhnikova half; double
front-half from el-grip) with teammate Kristina Goryunova (Weiler
kip, pirouette, toe-on Tkatchev; toe-on full, Tkatchev, Pak salto;
full-twisting double).

Bhavsar takes
parallel bars silver in Moscow
May 30, 2009
(Universal Sports): Olympic
bronze-medalist Raj Bhavsar won the silver medal on the parallel
bars at the 2009 World Stars, an International Gymnastics
Federation World Cup event, at Moscow’s Olympic Sport Complex. He
also successfully executed his original skill on the parallel
bars, which will be given his name in the FIG Code of Points.

Adds 'Kiss and Cry' Score Zone

(International Gymnast): Artistic
gymnastics is getting a new "kiss and cry" area, the FIG announced
Saturday. "The Federation is taking steps toward making its
competitions more entertaining, while it champions and furthers
the concepts of ethics and justice in sports," the FIG stated on
its Web site. Artistic gymnasts will join figure skaters and
rhythmic gymnasts, who already wait in the score zone to receive
their marks after competing.

Shewfelt Looks to Leadership Role

competitive days behind him, Olympic gold medalist Kyle Shewfelt
(Canada) is reflecting on his phenomenal career while seeking out

27, officially announced his retirement Thursday, drawing to a
close the career of Canada's most successful gymnast of all time.

Mainland to
participate in World Games 2009 to be held in Taiwan
May 22, 2009 (Xinhua):
The Chinese mainland will send a
sports delegation to participate in the 2009 World Games to be
held in Kaohsiung, a southern coastal city of Taiwan. Liu Peng,
chairman of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), said athletes
from nine associations of the COC will compete in the games. He
made the promise during his meeting with Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen
