Gymnastics star bows out on top

Olympic gold medals weren't enough for veteran gymnast Yang Wei
when he contemplated retirement after a successful Beijing Games.
But now, owing to maturing years and a diminishing capacity to
bounce back from injuries, the 29-year-old has been forced to
retire ahead of the forthcoming National Games.

Olympic television gathers for summit!

Initiated by Mr Manolo Romero, Director of OBS
(Olympic Broadcasting Services), a wholly owned subsidiary of the
International Olympic Committee responsible for the televised
broadcasting of the Olympic Games, the IOC, the FIG and its
partner Longines, NBC and BBC Sports Directors and OBS Directors
of Production were invited to convene at the FIG head office for
an in-depth look at the way gymnastics will be presented at the
Olympic Games.

Fédération sénégalaise de gymnastique (FSG) organise du 8 au 16
mai, au centre international sis au Cneps de Thiès, un stage
international de formation de gymnastique pour tous ceux qui
devraient contribuer à développer cette discipline qui n’existe
pas encore au Sénégal. Ce cours regroupera prés d’une trentaine de
participants du Sénégal, de l’Algérie et du Cap Vert et sera
dirigé, selon Mme Albertine Goncalves, présidente de la fédération
sénégalaise, par les experts de la Fédération internationale de
gymnastique (FIG), Sikkens Margaret, Russel Keith, Barata Paulo et

Mexican Gymnastics Frustrated by Flu Crisis

As Mexico celebrated Cinco de Mayo
on Tuesday, its gymnastics program remained disrupted along with
the rest of the nation by the ongoing flu crisis. Many gymnastics
clubs, including those in Mexico City, have been closed to avoid
the spread of the H1N1 flu virus, said Naomi Valenzo, secretary
general of the Mexican Gymnastics Federation.

Madrid Could Host Olympic Games In 2012 -
Coghen

Madrid 2016 chief executive Mercedes Coghen has
stated that the city is so advanced in its plans that it could
even host the Olympic Games in 2012. The International Olympic
Committee’s (IOC) Evaluation Commission has this week begun its
visit to the Spanish capital as it outlines its claims to host the
2016 Games over those of Chicago, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.
“Collectively, we are so well-advanced in our plans that Madrid
could readily host the Games in 2012, as well as 2016,” said
Coghen.

IOC completes Rio 2016

IOC’s evaluation commission completed its final tour of Rio de
Janeiro before deciding on the host of the 2016 Summer Olympic
Games, saying it was impressed with the strength of the bid.
“Everything we have seen so far is positive,” said the
commission’s chairwoman, Nawal el-Moutawakel, according to report
