Gale blows
away the opposition as Bulmershe shine

Bulmershe Gymnastics of Woodley continued its remarkable surge as
this country’s standard bearer for aerobic gymnastics, a sport
widely perceived as the most dynamic and energetic of all
gymnastic disciplines. At the 2008 British Championships held at
Fenton Manor in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this month, gymnasts from
Bulmershe were on fire.

with two victories for 17-year-old Russian Vice-World Champion

Valdez has resigned after eight years as a

of Illinois men's gymnastics coach amid a university
police investigation into allegations of possible misconduct by
Valdez, sources said.
Assistant athletic director Kent
Brown confirmed Monday that Valdez had left his job Oct. 17 for
"personal reasons," but Brown would not confirm that Valdez was

FIG Goes
Heart Healthy With Defibrillators

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) is instituting a
rule requiring defibrillators to be present at all of its
competitions. The rule, established at the recent FIG Congress in
Helsinki and announced Monday, will be in place for all FIG
events, including World Cup competitions. Defibrillators send
electrical jolts to the heart, potentially saving the life of
someone who is in cardiac arrest. >>

some ID? Gymnasts will need license
LAUSANNE (SUI), October 27,
2008 (International Herald Tribune):
Gymnasts will now have to start showing ID long before the
Olympics. Beginning Jan. 1, all junior and senior gymnasts who
represent their countries at most international meets will need a
license from the International Gymnastics Federation. The licenses
will include gymnasts' name, sex, country and date of birth, and
be their proof of age for their entire career. >>

American Olympic champion Nastia Liukin won the award of "Athlete
of the Year" in gymnastics, as the FIG statement said on Sunday.
The president of
FIG, international gymnastics governing body, Bruno Grandi
announced attribution of the "Athlete of the Year" award to Liukin,
the Beijing Olympic champion in women's all-around last week in
FIG's General Assembly in Helsinki. >>

deadline for trampoline 2009 World Cup bidding

The deadline to bid for organizing 2009 World Cup competitions in
trampoline, aerobic and acrobatic gymnastics had been pushed back
to the end of the year, FIG, the governing body of international
gymnastics announced on Sunday. Andre Gueisbuhler, FIG secretary
general, announced the decision after the General Assembly of FIG

World Games Pre-Events open with
dance performances in Kaohsiung
KAOHSIUNG (TPE), October 29,

The World Games 2009 Pre-Events Series of athletic contests kicked
off yesterday at the Kaohsiung Arena in southern Kaohsiung City.
Mayor Chen Chu and Ron Froehlich, president of the International
World Games Federation, jointly opened the sports events that will
last until Nov. 6. Modern kinetic dance and traditional aboriginal
dance were among the performances at the opening ceremony.

Tokyo 2016 commits to greener

environment and sustainability, adopting every environmental
initiative put forward by planners at the C40 Climate Change
Conference.
The move is a boost to Tokyo 2016’s

needed to develop sustainable low-carbon cities, took place in
Tokyo, and set out 13 areas of action that cities should take to

The World Games 2009: Pre-Events

Canada to host the 8th World
Conference on Sport and Environment

the registration launch for the 8th World Conference on Sport and
the Environment (WCSE). The event will be held from 29 to 31 March
2009 in Vancouver, host of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Organised jointly by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and
the Vancouver 2010 Organising Committee (VANOC), in close
partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP),
the conference will bring together representatives of governmental
and non-governmental institutions dealing with sport and the
environment, the United Nations system, universities, as well as

2016 Evaluation Commission: dates of
visits to Candidate Cities

2009, the IOC Evaluation Commission will visit the four Candidate
Cities bidding for the 2016 Olympic Games. The visits will be
carried out by the Commission from 4 to 7 April in Chicago (USA),
16 to 19 April in Tokyo (Japan), 29 April to 2 May in Rio de
Janeiro (Brazil) and 5 to 8 May in Madrid (Spain). The Commission
will spend four days with each bid committee.
