In the competition of the seniors the first Romanian victory of the championships has been reached by Simona Amanar. She has presented a fantastic Yurchenko double twist and a layout Tsukahara double twist (base score 10).
The same two vaults have also been presented by Elena Zamolodchikova but her Tsukahara has been clearly worse than the one from Amanar.

Bei den Seniorinnen gab es mit der Goldmedaille durch Simona Amanar den ersten rumänischen Sieg dieser EM.
Amanar zeigte einen fantastischen Jurtschenko mit Dopppelschraube und einen Tsukahara getsreckt mit
Doppelschraube (AW 10).

Die beiden gleichen Sprünge präsentierte auch Jelena Zamolodschikowa, deren Tsukahara allerdings deutlich schlechter war, als der von Amanar.

Doppleslato gestreckt als Abgang einen kleinen Hüpfer
hatte...

Mit ihrer nunmehr 7. Goldmedaille bei Europameisterschaften macht Swetlana Chorkina in der Liste "All European Champions" einen Sprung um 10 Plätze nach vornvon Platz 16 nach vorn, und liegt nun hinter Vera Caslavska (11xGold), Nadja Comaneci, Swetlana Boginskaja (je 9x), Ljudmilla Turischtschwewa (8) und Larissa Latynina (7) auf dem 6.Rang. Bis auf 1 EM-Medaille ist nun Swetlana Chorkina (11) an Nadia Comaneci (12) herangekommen, die immer noch die einzige Turnerin der europäischen Turngeschichte mit drei Mehrkampftitel ist, die sie 1975 in Skien, 1977 in Prag und 1979 in Kopenhagen gewann. Im Vorjahr wurde Nadja Comaneci als eine der Jahrhundertsportlerinnen mit einem "World Sports Award" in Wien geehrt.

the weekend. A small step on her double tucked dismount
took the possible gold medal from Amanar.

gewann Swetlana Chorkina ihren vierten Titel des Wochenendes. Ein kleiner Schritt beim Abgang Doppelsalto gehockt kostete Simona Amanar die mögliche Goldmedaille.

In the very last moment the Russian head coach Leonid
Arakev has exchanged the usually qualified Svetlana Khorkina for Yelena Zamolodchikova. However, she has made several small mistakes. Almost without mistakes at all has been Simona Amanar. The very best routine has been presented by Vikltoria Karpenko with 4 perfect tumbling lines – including double twist summersault forward directly and Tsukahara at the end of her routine. The judges, however, preferred French native Ludivine Furnon with her techno routine…

In letzter Sekunde hatte der russische Cheftrainer Leonid Arkajew die eigentlich qualifizierte Swetlana Chorkina gegen Jelena Zamolodtschikowa ausgetauscht, die jedoch mehrere kleine Fehler machte, nahezu fehlerlos dagegen Simona Amanar. Die beste Übung zeigte Viktoria Karpenko mit vier perfekten Akrobahnen- ua. Doppeltwist- Salto vw. direkt und Tsukahara in der Abschlussreihe - doch das Kampfgericht sah Lokalmatadorin Ludivine Furnon mit ihrer Techno-Übung vorn und hatte - was die Ausstrahlung anbetrifft, nicht ganz unrecht...:

Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der europäischen Titelkämpfe der Damen gewinnt eine Französin eine Goldmedaille: Allerdings ist die 19jährige Ludivine Furnon aus Nimes als excellente Bodenturnerin bekannt, gewann sie doch bereits 1995 die WM-Bronzemedaille in Sabae und stand seither 3x in WM-Boden- Finals.

For the first time in the history of women’s European Championships a French gymnast has won a gold medal. But the 19-year-old Ludivine Furnon has already been known for being an excellent floor gymnast. She has won the bronze medal at the World championships 1995 in Sabae and since then has been in 3 floor finals at World championships. So this has been golden comfort at the end of the championships where the hosts could not rank one of their gymnasts among the best 24 all around
gymnasts.

Fazit:
Russland wird mit 9 Medaillen (4/3/2) die mit Abstand erfolgreichste Nation, erstmals vor Rumänien (1/2/1) und Frankreich mit einem Titel, Ukraine ohne Titel mit 3x Silber, 1x Bronze..
Goldener Trost also am Ende dieses Championats für die Gastgeber, die mit einer riskanten Strategie unbedingt eine Mannschaftsmedaille wollten, und am Ende nicht eine einzige Turnerinnen unter den 24 besten Mehrkämpferinnen platzieren konnten...
Mit der Sprung-Bronze für Spaniens Ester Moya gingen die Medaillen an nur 5 Nationen.

Conclusion
For the first time ahead of Romania, Russia is clearly
the most successful nation with 9 medals (4/3/2).
France has won one title, the Ukraine has won no title
but 3 silver and one bronze medal.
So there has been golden comfort at the end of these
championships for the hosts who really had wanted to
win a team medal and therefore had planned a risky
strategy. In the end they could not rank one gymnast
among the best 24 all around gymnasts…
With the medal on vault for Ester Moya the medals
went to only 5 nations.
