April 24, 2009 (Globe and Mail): Canada opens
the World Cup season of trampoline in a rare position — two No.
1-ranked athletes in a summer Olympic sport. Olympic silver medal
winner Jason Burnett and Rosannagh MacLennan top the rankings in
individual trampoline. Burnett, of Toronto, heads off to begin his
season this weekend at a World Cup meet April 24-25 in Sofia,
Bulgaria.

timid tyke to a confident teen on her way to a series of world-calibre
competitions. That’s been the journey for Vernon 16-year-old Rylee
Haubrich, who has been selected to the national senior rhythmic
gymnastic team group scheduled for a hectic year of travelling.
Haubrich will be the first Vernon gymnast since Camille Martens –
Haubrich’s coach – to participate in the World Championships, set
for Japan in September.

gymnastic judges score high in international course
April 23, 2009 (Informante): Walvis Bay
residents have officially achieved the highest gymnastics judging
qualifications in Namibia, enabling the judges to adjudicate at
world championship competitions.
Fourteen judges, affiliated with the Namibia Gymnastics Federation
(NGF), achieved various judging statuses during the Federation for
International Gymnastics (FIG) judging courses for the new Olympic
Cycle of gymnastics.

impressed by London Games progress
April 21, 2009 (Reuters): London was ahead of
previous host cities in its preparations for the Olympics and had
made impressive progress in the last year, Denis Oswald, head of
an IOC inspection of the 2012 site, said on Tuesday. Oswald, who a
year ago gave London 9.75 out of 10 for its fast start in
preparing for the Games, began a three-day visit of the east
London venues with a close-up inspection of the Olympic stadium
that is already rising on the skyline.

EU panel says
WADA should reassess "whereabouts" rule
April 21, 2009 (Reuters): The World Anti-Doping
Agency (WADA) should reassess its so-called "whereabouts" rule as
many points contravene the European Union's privacy laws, a key EU
panel said Tuesday. The panel said there were "numerous issues
that remain problematic" with the rule requiring athletes to give
detailed schedules of their whereabouts for drug testing. It has
angered many individuals and sports organizations and has led to
legal challenges.

praise on Tokyo 2016
April 20, 2009 (Sportbusiness International):
Inspectors for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) yesterday
gave Tokyo a boost in its bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
Nawal El Moutawakel, head of the IOC's evaluation team, said she
had been impressed during the four-day tour of the Japanese
capital and gave note in particular to its financial strength.
