The women's podium training started today at 9:00 a.m. in Ghent with the group Latvia, Finland, Hungary, mixed group (SRI, ITA) and Great Britain, and ended with the performances of Romania, France, Australia ...!
...a very long day!

Von morgens 9.00 Uhr bis 22 Uhr lief in Gent das Podiumstraining der Frauen. Es begann mit der Gruppe Lettland, Finnland Ungarn, Großbritannien und einer Mixed-Gruppe (Sri Lanka und Italien.)
und endete am Abend u.a.mit Frankreich, Rumänien und Australien...

The German gymnasti Valeri Belenki injured his arm on parallel bars in podium training. More about this in our daily report. 


 Yevgeni Podgorni injured in podium training

Russian head coach Leonid Arkayev is worried. Yevgeni Podgorni injured his ellbow on a fall from high bar in the Russian team's second last rotation in podium training today. How serious the injury is and whether Podgorni will be able to compete will be determined later on in the day, after examination by a doctor.

"These Worlds are going to be great. We are expecting a sell-out crowd which will provide a fantastic atmosphere", some of the members of the organising committee of the Vlaamse Turnliga rave and can clearly hardly wait for Worlds to begin.

During our visit, the "Pegases" was still covered, but it will be used for the first time in official podium training today and then, on Sunday, it will make its debut at the World Championships...

Valeri Belenki verletzt
Beim letzten Durchgang des Podiumstrainings verletzte sich der 31jährige Valeri Belenki aus dem deutschen Team am Barren. Erste Diagnose: Bizepsabriss. Näheres dazu in unserem Report über das >>Podiumstraining.

 Jewgeni Podgorny beim Training verletzt
Sorgenfalten beim russischen Chefcoach Leonid Arkajew: Beim vorletzten Durchgang des Podiumstrainings der russischen Mannschaft verletzte sich Jewgeni Podgorny bei einem Sturz am Reck. Wie schwer seine Ellenbogenverletzung ist und inwieweit er an den kommenden Wettkämpfen teilnehmen kann, muss nun erst die ärztliche Untersuchung erweisen. 


Derzeit läuft das Podiumstraining in Gent in der Topsporthal Vlanderen, die deutsche Männermannschaft geht erst heute abend nach 21.00 Uhr an die Geräte. Die teilnehmenden WM-Delegationen äußern sich lobend über die Bedingungen vor Ort. 
Auf seinen WM-Premiereneinsatz wartet der neue Sprungtisch "Pegases" der Fa. "Janssen&Fritsen". Und die ersten Sprung-Neuheiten wurden schon angekündigt...

Starting on Monday, officials from Vlaamse gymnastics VTL and their partner AFG(Belgian Gymnastics Federation) are faced with the task of achieveing small miracles on a daily basis:
Making sure the teams that are staying at many different hotels all over town and in the region are brought to the right place at the right time. Coordinatiing the process of accreditation for over 700 particpants, coaches and officials. An army of volunteers and friendly helpers is ever present...

 Seit Montag müssen die Organisatoren der Vlaamse Turnliga VTL und des Partners AFG (Belgischer Turnverbände) tägliche kleine Wunder vollbringen: Pünktliche Transporte der auf viele Hotels der Stadt und Region verteilten Mannschaften und die Akkreditierungen der weit über 700 offiziell an der WM beteiligten Akteure, Trainer, Betreuer und Funktionäre.
Ein Heer von freiwilligen und freundlichen Helfern ist allgegenwärtig...

Title defender Nikolai Krjukow (RUS) goes against different phrased messages nevertheless to the start. It had been reported in the media as hurt - it however actually concerned its brother.

Ukrainian stars Alexander Svetlichni and Valeri Pereshkura will miss the upcoming World Championships in Ghent.

Robert Juckel (SC Cottbus) received the 6th start ticket in the German men team. 

The team of the USA arrived nevertheless now with both crews in Gent. Originally the delegation had called off due to the political situation.

Titelverteidiger Nikolai Krjukow (RUS) geht entgegen anderslautenden Meldungen doch an den Start. Er war in den Medien als verletzt vermeldet worden - es handelte sich aber tatsächlich um seinen Bruder.
Die Stars des ukrainischen Männerturnens, Alexander Swetlitschni und Waleri Pereschkura nehmen aus Verletzungsgründen nicht an der WM teil. 
Robert Juckel (SC Cottbus) erhielt den 6. Startplatz im deutschen Männerteam.
Das Team der USA ist nun doch mit beiden Mannschaften in Gent eingetroffen. Ursprünglich hatte die Delegation aufgrund der politischen Situation abgesagt.

> Romanian group at the opening  > Rumänische Show zur Eröffnung

The Opening Ceremony of the 35th World Championships (Saturday October 27th) will stage the Romanian group Aeros, an acrobatic dance performed by former gymnasts and acrobats. This new show successfully toured in the United States last year. 

Thanks to the unique combination of dance and different gymnastics disciplines is this the ultimate show for a gymnastics fans.

Zur Eröffnung der 35. Kunstturn- Weltmeisterschaften am Samstag, dem 27. Oktober 2001 in Gent wird die rumänische Gruppe Aeros auftreten. Die Akrobatik- und Tanzshow gestalten ehemalige Turner und Akrobaten, die mit der Show im vergangenen Jahr bereits erfolgreich in den USA auf Tournee waren. 
Durch die Kombination von Tanz mit den verschiedenen Turn-Disziplinen gilt die Performance als ultimative Show für Turn-Fans.

From 28th October to November the 4th will be held the 35th World Championships of Artistic Gymnastics in Ghent (Belgium).

The phantastic number of 570 participants (244 women, 326 men) from 68 countries will come to this highlight.
85 % of the tickets are selled, also all tickets of the final events in the Topsporthal Vlanderen" for prices up to 175,- € !

 Vom 28. Oktober bis 4. November werden in Gent (Belgien) die Kunstturn-Weltmeisterschaften 2001 stattfinden. Die Riesenanzahl von 570 Aktiven (244 Damen, 326 Herren) aus 68 Ländern wurde für diesen internationalen Saisonhöhepunkt gemeldet. Alle erwartet ein Event mit Superstimmung, denn bereits jetzt wurden 85 % aller Tickets abgesetzt. Die Finalbewerbe in der "Flanders Sports Arena" sind trotz stolzer Preise bis hinauf zu EUR 175,- schon ausverkauft.

One week before the start of the 35th World Championships the sportive preparations of the gym-nations are basically finished.
Locally in Ghent the arrival of the nations is expected these hours.

The training gyms in the Topsporthal Vlanderen, in the Belgian Artistic Gymnastics Centre and on the EXPO are equipped by the official WCh-outfitter JANSSEN&FRITSEN and are to the disposal of the participants. The Dutch producer of Pegases J&F as well as the European Agency GYMmedia INTERNATIONALwill report in co-operation and for the first time daily updated, LIVE and comprehensive about a gym-World Championships.

>From Monday on, 22nd October, the DAILY REPORTS of the WCh will come directly from Ghent: Interviews, visits to the different gym-nations, to the hosts as well as the presentation of favourites will stand in the focus. As background of the latest reports JANSSEN&FRITSENpresents comprehensive information about the Code de Pointage, the history of the apparatuses and World Championships, statistics and much more – information that had prepared these title matches world-wide and since January 2001 already.

 Eine Woche vor Beginn der 35.Weltmeisterschaften sind die sportlichen Vorbereitungen der Turnnationen im wesentlichen abgeschlossen. Einer der letzten Wettkämpfe war der Drei-Länderkampf zwischen Deutschland, Frankreich und der Schweiz am letzten Wochenende.
In Gent sind bereits die ersten Nationen angereist.
Die Trainingshallen in der Topsporthal Vlanderen, im belgischen Kunstturnzentrum und insgesamt 6 komplette Hallen (3 Frauen/ 3 Männer) sind auf dem Gelände der EXPO Gent vom offiziellen WM-Ausrüster JANSSE&FRITSEN präpariert und stehen den Teilnehmern offiziell ab Montag zum Training zur Verfügung. Auf Anfrage ist aber bereits heute Training möglich, und wurde bereits von der Delegation Kasachstans genutzt.
 Der holländische Pegases-Produzent JANSSEN&FRITSEN sowie die Europa-Agentur GYMmedia INTERNATIONAL werden in Kooperation erstmals LIVE und umfassend von einer Turn-Weltmeisterschaft berichten.
