Second final day
Alina Kabaeva new World Champion
Alina Kabaeva (RUS) won the all around
competition of th 23rd Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Osaka. Youlia
Raskina (BLR) got silver medal, Youlia Barsoukova (RUS) won the bronze medal. elena
Vitrichenko (UKR), the former World Champion, was the 5th. She got 0,001 (!!) points less
than Eva Serrano (FRA) - this is a farce of scoring and it isn't a good publicity for
Rhythmic Gymnastics!
It would be interesting to observe the final competitions tomorrow.
Teodora Alexandrova (BUL, 8th place) became the darling of the spectators in Osaka.
The charming girl be unlucky with hoop on the end of her exercise (9,650 points only).
Edita Schaufler (GER) was not be appearing
Edita Schaufler (GER) was due to her old injury not appearing in
individual all around competition for which she had qualified in ninth place.
Lena Asmus got the 19th place in all around competition.
Russia won the group competition!
It was a little bit unexpected that the Russian group won the all around competition. But this group have a absolutely new
stile in this season - feminine, smart, adult, with technical perfection. So the groups of
Greece and Belorussia got the other medals only.
On the 4th place was the Japanese group. Germany on the 5th place, it is an
wonderful success for this young team! Carmen Weber, the ill coach of the German group,
was so happy: "I'm so glad about this success, about all because it means, that we
will take part in the Olympic Games!"
For all the groups was the target, to come to a place from 1 to 8, because this is
the directly qualification for the Olympic Games in 2000. Here are this nations: Russia,
Greece, Belorussia, Japan, Germany, Italy (with 0,001 points difference!), Spain, France.
(Two places will confer the FIG).

Zweiter WM-Finaltag:
Alina Kabajewa ist Weltmeisterin
Alina Kabajewa (RUS) wurde ihrer Favoritenrolle gerecht und gewann in
Osaka den Einzelmehrkampf vor Julia Raskina (BLR) und ihrer
Teamgefährtin Julia Barsoukowa. Für ihre Ballübung erhielt sie erneut 10 Punkte.
Titelverteidigerin Jelena Witrischenko (UKR) wurde mit 0,001 Punkten (!) Rückstand
Fünfte hinter Eva Serrano (FRA) - eine Spitzfindigkeit, die der Sportart nicht gut zu
Gesicht steht!! Bleibt zu hoffen, daß sich die elegante Gymnastin in den morgigen
Gerätfinals revanchieren kann.
Publikumsliebling der Zuschauer in Osaka indes war die sympathische Bulgarin
Teodora Alexandrova (8.), die im letzten Moment ihrer Reifenübung das Gerät verlor...
Edita Schaufler nicht am Start
Edita Schaufler, die sich als Neunte für das Mehrkampffinale qualifiziert
hatte, konnte ihre Chance im Mehrkampffinale aufgrund ihrer Fußverletzung nicht
nutzen. Lena Asmus nahm ihren Startplatz wahr und wurde 19. im Gesamtklassement.
Russinnen gewinnen auch mit der Gruppe
Eigentlich hatte man eher Weißrußland oder Griechenland auf Platz 1des Gruppen-Mehrkampfes vermutet - aber die Russinnen machten
auch diesen Sieg perfekt. Sie bieten allerdings auch gegenüber den
Vorjahren völlig neuen Stil - weiblich, elegant, erwachsen, dabei wie gewohnt mit
technischer Perfektion. So verwiesen sie Griechenland (2.) und Weißrußland auf die
Plätze. Japan auf Platz 4 und die deutsche Gruppe auf Platz 5! Zu Hause bei der
erkrankten Trainerin Carmen Weber lief das Telefon heiß - Eltern, Kollegen, alle
gratulierten. Schließlich der Anruf aus Osaka - "ihre" Mädchen, die nur noch
happy waren! "Ich bin sehr glücklich," so die engagierte Trainerin, "vor
allem, weil wir nun die Olympiatickets in der Tasche haben!"
Weiterhin haben sich für Sydney 2000 qualifiziert (insgesamt 8): Italien (wieder
0,001 Punkte zurück!), Spanien und Frankreich.
(Zwei weitere Startplätze vergibt die FIG).
