Third final day:
Vitrichenko and Kabaeva won the finals
Alina Kabaeva (RUS) is the most successful gymnast of this 1999 World
Championships! Today, she got two gold medals (with ball and with ribbon) again, so she
has won four gold and two silver medals.
Elena Vitrichenko (UKR) took revenge for the results of all around competition
(only 5th behind Eva Serrano). She won the finals with rope and hoop (each 10 points). Her
expressive performances were highlights - also for the spectators, who gave
indescribable applause. Julia Raskina (BLR), the 2nd of
all around competition, won two silver medals again. She is also one of the most
successful gymnasts of this Championships.
Edita Schaufler (GER) put up a good fight inspite of her injury in the finals with
hoop and ribbon, but more than two 8th places was impossible...

Group finals
Greece won both the gold medals
Ones more - one group final without the Ukrainian group - it's
unimagenable! But this is sports...
The greek group did her gymnasts without mistakes. The greek girls got the gold
medal in the clubs exercise, it was a clear decision. But with hoops and ribbons, the
groups of Russia and Belorussia gave also a very good impression and were without mistakes
(the Russian gymnasts with a beautiful feminine performance) - it's impossible to
understand the jury....
The German group had a good performance with clubs (5th place), but not so good
with hoops and ribbons (mistakes, 7th place). But congratulations for the very good
performance on this World championships!
Balance of nations, qualification for the Olympic Games in 2000
Russia is the absolutely best nation of this World Championships.

But only four nations got
all the qualification places for the Olympic Games (two individual gymnasts, one group):
Russia, Belorussia, Spain and Germany.
The Japanes team is happy about the tickets (one individual, one group) to Sydney.
The prominent gymnastics nations Bulgaria and Ukraine have a frustrating time -
only on place (individual) for Bulgaria and two places (individual) for Ukraine, that is
the inadequate balance.

Finaltag:
Revanche für Witrischenko, zwei weitere Titel für Kabajewa
Alina Kabajewa (RUS) ist die überragende Gymnastin dieser '99er WM: Sie
fügte ihren bisherigen 2 Goldmedaillen zwei weitere goldene (Sieg mit Ball und Band) und
zwei silberne hinzu. Revanche gab es für die im Mehrkampf so schmählich (Platz 5 hinter
Eva Serrano) behandelte Jelena Witrischenko (UKR), die sich mit zwei Glanzvorstellungen
(je 10 Punkte) mit Seil und Reifen die WM-Titel holte. Sie wurde unbeschreiblich gefeiert
vom japanischen Publikum - nur die einheimischen Gymnastinnen erhielten noch mehr
Beifall...
Julia Raskina (BLR) holte sich zwei weitere Silbermedaillen und ist die dritte im
Bunde der erfolgreichsten Einzelgymnastinnen dieser WM.
Als große Kämpferin erwies sich Edita Schaufler (GER), die trotz verletztem Fuß in den
Finals mit Reifen und Band turnte - mehr als Platz 8 war unter diesen Umständen dann
nicht zu erwarten.

Gruppen-Finals:
Griechenland mit beiden Titeln
Noch einmal: Ein Gruppenfinale ohne die Ukraine - eigentlich unvorstellbar! Aber so
ist der Sport. Griechenland turnte fehlerfrei und schwierig, und in der Übung mit
den Keulen ging der Sieg sicher in Ordnung. Doch in der schwierigeren Kombination mit
Reifen und Bändern hätten ebenso die Russinnen (ein faszinierend weiblicher Vortrag!)
oder die Weißrussinnen Gold erhalten dürfen - unergründliche Kampfgerichte...
Die deutsche Gruppe wiederum mit sehr guter Keulenübung (5.Platz) und mit Fehlern
im zweiten Finale (7.). Trotzdem: Gratulation zu der großartigen Gesamtleistung!
Insgesamt Finals auf außerordentlich hohem Niveau - wieviel Kreativität, Können
und Fleiß steckt hinter all diesen Vorträgen!
Nationenbilanz, Olympiaqualifikation
In der WM-Bilanz glänzt Rußland mit fünf WM-Titeln. Die Übersicht:

Nur vier Nationen gelang es, alle Olympia-
Qualifikationsmöglichkeiten maximal auszuschöpfen: Rußland, Weißrußland,
Spanien, Deutschland (zwei Einzelstartplätze, Gruppenstartplatz).
Glücklich sind auch die Japanerinnen, die sich im Einzel und in der Gruppe qualifizieren
konnten. Frust hingegen bei zwei großen Gymnastiknationen: Bulgarien (nur eine Gymnastin
im Einzel) und der Ukraine (zwei Einzel, keine Gruppe).
