Up for Cup
March 5, 2009
(International Gymnast): Montreal's
Gymnix Gymnastics Club will host a trio of international
competitions this weekend, with varied lineups that include
13-year-old U.S. rising star Jordyn Wieber and 34-year-old
Slovenian veteran Aljaz Pegan.
Gymnix, which holds an
annual international invitational each spring, has expanded the
competition to include a World Cup event. The first World Cup of
the season features only nine women from four nations, but 39 men
from 12 nations will contest the men's competition. >>

Daily): Triple Olympic gold medalist
Li Ning achieved a major publicity coup in Beijing yesterday by
signing pole vault queen Yelena Isinbayeva to his eponymous
sportswear brand for a reported five-year deal worth $7.5 million.
The legendary Chinese gymnast and highly decorated Russian athlete
are now poised to scale new financial heights together after their
individual feats wowed audiences during the Beijing Games last
August.

President Grandi: Indication of Chinese
age-cheating in Beijing

(Monsters and Critics): The
president of the international gymnastics federation FIG Bruno
Grandi has said that there were believable indications that China
had cheated with the age of some of their gymnasts at the Beijing
Olympics last year.
'There were strong
indications, but I did not handle the investigation. I had to
accept the official documents that I was shown at face-value, I am
not a policeman or Interpol,' he told the German gymnastics
magazine Leon.

Budapest coaching stint

stint in Hungary has whetted the appetite of former international
Ng Shu Wai to rebuild his career in artistic gymnastics. And if
everything falls into place, the Olympian could represent Malaysia
at next year’s Commonwealth Games in India. For a start, the
23-year-old is ready to meet National Sports Council (NSC)
director general Datuk Zolkples Embong to look into the
possibility of returning as a national gymnast and working towards

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Family
Thursday celebrated the International Women's Day and the 2009
Women and Sport Awards. The official ceremony held at The Olympic
Museum in Lausanne, awarding five women who have made tremendous
contributions to strengthening the participation of women and
girls in sport on an international level. President Jacques Rogge

Kaohsiung

The Kaohsiung City Government has joined hands with the Kaohsiung
Organizing Committee of the World Games 2009 to make an
international announcement for the upcoming event at the Park
Hyatt Tokyo hotel in Shinjuku. Mayor Chen Chu travelled on

of Taiwan, to present a personal letter of invitation to the

With the virtual Olympic Congress

www.olympic.org launches today its Olympic Congress
series. From now on till end of September each week one story
linked to the Olympic Congress will be placed on the homepage of
olympic.org. The first part of this series includes stories for
each one of the previous congresses. As from June each week one of
the themes or sub-themes of the Congress will be highlighted
accompanied with a short video illustrating activities already
carried out in this field. Today’s story looks back on the first

Official: New
Delhi security arrangements on track
March 4, 2009 (The
Canadian Press): Organizers of the
2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi have assured "foolproof"
security for the event in the wake of a terrorist attack on Sri
Lanka cricket team in neighbouring Pakistan.
Tuesday's attack in
Lahore, which killed six police and injured seven members of the
Sri Lanka team, raised questions about security for sporting
events in the region, with next year's Commonwealth Games among
the most prominent.
