Gothenburg all geared up
The 11th World Gymnaestrada may begin!
The Organising Committee and the representatives of the participating associations have put in a lot of work once more over the past days and prepared the respective venues for the various activities:
The large Ullevi Stadium, at which the opening and closing ceremonies are to be held,
the Ullevi Football Stadium for the performance of the big groups,
the Scandinavium, the Gym for the FIG Gala and the national evenings as well as
Svenska Mässan, the exhibition halls for the information stalls of the participating associations and for presentations, also accommodating the catering facilities for the 22,000 participants and last but not least
Heden, the large Gymnaestrada fairground as a meeting place for the participant and visitors.

The World Gymnaestrada has also left its mark on the appearance of Gothenburg. There are large banners to be found already along the motorways, and the roads leading to the fairground are decorated with flags and banners. The colours of Gymnaestrada also dominate the large shopping centres.

All that is left to wish is that the rain clouds will blow away during the two still remaining days and that the weather will permit for a shining Gymnaestrada.

Hans-Jürgen Zacharias

(Vice President of FIG)

" I greet all participants in this grand festival of world gymnastics and my heart goes out to you. It is good to know that so many people are stimulated by gymnastics and dance and are thus enriching their lives. I still love my gymnastics, to which I have dedicated my whole soul and life.
Even though I cannot be with you in person and I am using the Internet of GYMmedia for this message - I wish all participants happy hours of encounters with many people from all over the world. It is above all for the millions of popular gymnasts that I wish to grow together with the elite gymnasts.
I used to be a competitive gymnast myself and know that the young men and girls at the top are still committed with their entire soul and need the support of the w h o l e big gymnastics family.

I am still travelling a lot myself, I have just returned from a trip to the United States.

In August, I am planning to visit Freyburg the home town of the founding father of gymnastics, Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, where a big gymnastics festival is to be staged.

May be I will meet some of the World Gymnaestrada participants there.

So, first of all, have fun in Gothenburg!

Many greetings to all friends of gymnastics

Yours  Leon Stukelj.
