Erstmals war es warm und - Sonnenschein im Ullevi-Stadion bei der Eröffnungs- veranstaltung

   Die 11.Weltgymnaestrada 1999 ist eröffnet!
FIG-Präsident Bruno Grandi brachte in seiner Eröffnungsrede zum Ausdruck, daß die Gymnaestrada ein Ort der Begegnung für alle Turnbegeisterten aus aller Welt sei, vor allem der Wunsch nach Gedankenaustausch unter Gleichgesinnten vorrangig ist.

  The 11th World Gymnaestrada 1999 is opened!
Mr. Bruno Grandi, the FIG president, said in his opening address, that the Gymnaestrada is a perfectly meeting of congenial friends of all gymnastics disziplines from all over the world, to change thoughts and speak together.     

     Auf 5 Podesten wurden im Ullevi Stadion die 37 Länderdelegationen willkommen geheißen: Mit Musik, Gesang und erdteiltypischen Bewegungen und Tänzen.
200 junge Mädchen schlugen um das ganze Rasenfeld herum Räder, während auf der Innenfläche Turnerinnen und Turner Flic-Flacs und Salti zeigten.

Hoch über dem Stadion schwebte der Gymnaestrada Drachen.

   On 5 stages were celebrated special welcomings:
Typical dances, movements, music and songs för the delegations from the different continents and 37 countries.
Outsite the green 200 girls demonstrated handstands and more,
and inside gymnasts jumped flic-flacs and saults....

  Die Sonne ging rot unter, über dem Stadion, als die Teilnehmer zum nahegelegenen Festplatz 'Heden' pilgerten und wo jeder sein ganz spezielles und persönliche Eröffnungsfest bis in einen schönen Göteburger Morgen hinein feierte...
