Bruno Grandi, President of the International Gymnastics Federation, FIG:                          Bruno Grandi (Italy), President of the International Gymnastics Federation FIG and the secretary general of the FIG Norbert Bueche (Switzerland) have been guests of the German Gymnastics Festival "Deutsches Turnfest" in Leipzig for two days.  On their last evening the visited the gala of the TV-station "MDR".

Mr. Grandi, how did you like the show? 

Fantastic! This combinations of gymnastics, music from the show and the technical effects of the TV-station have been presented very well. It hasn`t been too long and the program harmonized wonderfully. This kind of presentation is a perfect advertising for gymnastics. I am happy! 

What else have you seen during your two days at the gymnastics festival?

We attended the opening ceremony and the parade and made a detailled tour through the different venues on the fairground. I have seen a lot, competitions and program for all age groups and I am very impressed. You know, I especially liked the competitions for the older generation. I expressly want to state that we have to thank the German Gymnastics Federation for all this activities. This is something very, very special.

Was this the first time for you at a German Gymnastics Festival?

Yes, this is something really new to me. I have been already at Gymnastics Festivals in Switzerland but you can`t compare them to this one.

Which impressions do you take with you for the future work of the FIG?

I think the German Gymnastics Festival is very important for the development of gymnastics not only in Germany but in the whole world. This is why the FIG has to think about how to continue with making gymnastics more popular according to this example.

Are there already concrete ideas for this?

Yes, I have ordered the video from the German Gymnastics Federation. And then I want to travel to different countries which might be able to organise  something like this. I want to present the video and talk to them to offer this fantastic idea to organise something similar to the German Gymnastics Festival to them.

Bruno Grandi (Italien), Präsident des Internationalen Turnerbundes FIG und  der Generalsekretär der FIG, Norbert Bueche (Schweiz), waren für zwei Tage Gäste des Deutschen Turnfestes in Leipzig. Am Abend besuchte der Präsident die MDR-Gala in der Messehalle 1, heute reist er bereits wieder zurück.

Herr Grandi, wie hat Ihnen die Show gefallen?

Fantastisch! Diese Verbindung von Turnen, Musik, der Show und den technischen Effekten des Fernsehens, das war sehr gelungen. Es war nicht zu lang, und es hat alles wunderbar harmoniert. Diese Art der Präsentation ist eine sehr positive Werbung für das Turnen und die Gymnastik. I’m happy!

Was haben Sie sich in den zwei Tagen beim Turnfest außerdem angesehen?

Wir waren bei der Eröffnung und dem Festzug und haben hier auf dem Messegelände einen ausführlichen Rundgang gemacht. Ich habe vieles gesehen, Wettkämpfe und Angebote für jedes Alter, und ich bin sehr beeindruckt. Wissen Sie, insbesondere war ich begeistert von diesen Wettkämpfen für die Älteren. Ich möchte unbedingt sagen, dass man dem Deutschen Turner-Bund danken muss für all diese Aktivitäten. Das hier ist etwas sehr, sehr Besonderes.

Sind Sie zum ersten Mal bei einem Deutschen Turnfest?

Ja, das ist wirklich neu für mich. Ich war schon bei Schweizer Turnfesten, aber das kann man vielleicht nicht miteinander vergleichen.

Was nehmen Sie an Eindrücken für die Arbeit der FIG mit?

Ich meine, dass das Deutsche Turnfest sehr bedeutend ist für die Entwicklung des Turnens, und das nicht nur für Deutschland, sondern für das Turnen in der ganzen Welt. Deshalb muss die FIG darüber nachdenken, wie sie die  Popularisierung solcher Beispiele fortsetzen kann.

Sind diese Überlegungen schon konkret?
