Johanna QUAAS: Happy Birthday! |
In the summer, she presented the 100th Jahnturnfest as patron. Now, a quarter of a year later, she herself is celebrating her 99th birthday on 20 November! The whole world knows Johanna QUAAS as one of the most agile senior gymnasts in the world, who has demonstrated incredible performance in her tenth decade as a gymnastics competitor and has been documented in world sports history since 2013 as the ‘oldest active competitive gymnast’ in the Guinness Book of World Records.
This grand dame of gymnastics is recognised all over the world; in China, for example, people celebrate her 99th birthday with particular pathos and would love to dress Hannchen in the clothes of a Chinese empress, ... and cheer her on at tik tok, .... which she ultimately modestly declined.

It's easier to imagine her in a parachutist's outfit again, as former German gymnastics world champion Eberhard Gienger has suggested a second parachute jump for her 100th birthday in 2025. Her first bold jump, in honour of the Queen of England after her 90th birthday, was almost a decade ago.
The jubilarian doesn't seem to be averse to the idea, but premature promises of this kind simply don't suit this modest woman who always thinks and acts realistically. ‘At my age, other circumstances and conditions will decide when the time is right anyway ...!’ she said philosophically.
Now it's time to celebrate ‘99’!

Dear Johanna,
Whenever I think of you, it gives me great strength to realize what is possible when strong women want something, then they do it and can be very successful, I like to remember the World Cup in Cottbus where we met a few years ago and you congratulated me on my success!
If you've managed to perform on the apparatus at over 90 years of age, then that's what I'm aiming for too. I didn't compete in Paris this year, but the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles will be my next goal!
You also gave me a lot of strength for such a decision and such a goal, because you also really lived the sport and gymnastics, like me!.
With great respect and love --
Yours Oxana CHUSOVITINA (UZB)

Dear Johanna,
I would also like to send you my warmest regards on your birthday, which - how could it be otherwise - you celebrated with your gymnastics friends. This shows the special cohesion that sport, especially our large gymnastics family, brings to life.
Of course, I stand by my suggestion to offer you another and second parachute jump after you showed yourself to be so professional and enthusiastic at your first one. What could be better suited for this than your next big anniversary year 2025, for which I wish you the best of health and well-being.
* Your admirer andgymnastics friend
Eberhard GIENGER (German Ex-World & European Champion)
