The German youth gymnast Jukka NISSINEN (Eintracht Frankfurt) suffered a serious accident in a training accident at the Frankfurt performance centre at the beginning of September. The 16-year-old injured his spine and is currently undergoing in-patient rehabilitation. According to the Nissinen family, the possible consequences of the injury are not yet foreseeable. The son of Mauno Nissinen, who competed for Finland at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, and former national coach Petra Nissinen-Theiss was the most successful gymnast at the 2022 German Youth Championships this year, winning six national titles.
At this year's European Youth Championships in Munich, he won silver on high bar and bronze on rings.
Mauno Nissinen, who works as a coach in Frankfurt, says Jukka is professionally coached and is making progress. The parents thank him for the good wishes and offers of help, but they ask for understanding that it is not possible for them to answer further questions about Jukka's state of health at the moment.
DTB President Alfons Hölzl explains: "We will support Jukka and his family at all times and offer them our utmost help. We hope that he continues to make the greatest possible progress in health".
Ulrich Mueller, President of the local Hessian Gymnastics Federation (HTV), also assures the young gymnast from Frankfurt of the HTV's full support: "We will continue to keep our fingers crossed for Jukka's positive development. Should he and his family wish for help, we will of course also support where we can."
