More than 350 gymnasts from 60 different nations took part at the 2018 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships this month in Sofia (BUL), where competition begun on Monday, Sep 10 and finished with the last finals on Sunday, Sep 16.
The World Championships also served as the first 2020 Olympic qualification, as the three medallists from the Group All-around competition, qualified to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo (JPN). These Worlds took place for the first time in the capital of Bulgaria, one of the most successful and influential nations in the discipline.
Bulgaria previously played host to the competition in 1969 and 1987, but both times in the Black Sea port of Varna.
Two-time Olympian Maria Petrova (BUL), who won her first of three consecutive World All-around titles 25 years ago, serves as the FIG Ambassador for the competition.

Once again, RUSSIA proved to be the dominating gymnastics nation by winning 7 of the possible 9 World Championship titles, and only relinquished the two finals in the group competition to BULGARIA and ITALY respectively.
The absolutely best gymnast was Russia's Dina AVERINA with all-around gold, three golden medals in the apparatus finals and member of the golden RUSSIAN TEAM of these Worlds ...!

Russia's Dina AVERINA was unstoppable from start to finish as she won her second World All-around title in Sofia (BUL), where she claimed the gold medal over Israel's Linoy Ashram and Russian teammate Aleksandra Soldatova.
Averina nearly pulled off a complete sweep at Sofia's Arena Armeec with gold medals already this week in the team competition and with the Ball, Hoop and Clubs. Soldatova claimed the title in the Ribbon — the only individual event Dina Averina did not contest — as Russia swept all six gold medals in the Individual competition.
Aleksandra Soldatova (RUS) was awarded the Longines 'Prize for Elegance' Friday evening at the 2018 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Sofia (BUL).

No one else but the Russian gymnasts set the overwhelming accents on the first days of qualifying: With the first apparatus (ball) already Alexandra Soldatova and the Averina twins achieved the absolute top results.
