In December Zimbabwe will host the 'Zone Six Gymnastics Championships' in the country's capital city of Harare, The Herald reported on Thursday.
The championships, open to various age groups up to 21-year-olds, will be held at Belvedere Teachers' College between December 7 and 12.....
Gymnastics Zimbabwe, the national association for the sport, have already sent out invitations to South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Mozambique, Reunion Islands, Seychelles and Malawi.
Zimbabwes National gymnastics coach Chris Muchatuta, speaking on behalf of Gymnastics Zimbabwe, was upbeat about the country's ability to host the competition and its potential benefit to the local gymnasts.
'At the moment, it is safe to say we expect a sizeable number of participants, perhaps even over 200. A maximum squad side is 131, which only South Africa is likely to field,' said
Muchatuta.
He added that
Zone Six championships should rotate between countries that have adequate equipment and facilities to host as South Africa and Namibia have generally tended to shoulder the responsibility.
