After having injured his knee badly last year, everyone in Cottbus is now happy that Wajdi Bouallegue from Tunisia is now here as a gymnast again. His father and coach Mohamed Habib Bouallegue mentions that this is the first competition after a one-year long break due to the injury. To start again, he competes only on floor and pommel horse. Even if not everything has run perfectly, coach and gymnast are satisfied with the result. Mohamed Habib Bouallegue thinks that the World Cup in Cottbus is a very important competition as in the startlist of it you can find gymnasts from the whole World. This gives as well to the coach as to the gymnast a good opportunity to get experience on the international field and to learn new things.   

 The conditions for gymnastics in Tunisia are not always easy. The 20-year-old Wajdi Bouallegue from the club Medjerma Sport in Tunis is currently the only gymnast who can compete on an international level; that means father and son are like “lonely fighters” from Tunisia at the moment.

At the Tunisian championships last year Wajdi won the all-around and all apparatus finals. However, beyond him there are a few upcoming talents in Tunisia who train in 5 different clubs.  
Wajdi trains about 23 – 25 hours per week in addition to his studies. The fact that is father is also his coach is not always easy but both of them manage it successfully. 
According to Mohamed Habib Bouallegue the difficulty of the routines from his son is quite well already compared to the international level. However, what is missing is the necessary experience to present all routines faultlessly during an international competition. This is above all a psychological problem and you could work on it only by taking part in as many big competitions as possible. But for that the money is often missing. Despite of that, Mohamed Habib Bouallegue is certain that Tunisian gymnastics will improve during the next years. – So everyone can be surprised what to see from Tunisian gymnasts in future!
