Peycheva: B-Test positive!

  23-2003: Doping case Peycheva:
FIG Press Release 24-09: Doping case confirmed
Moutier / Budapest, September 24, 2003 : The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) conducted unexpected and out-of-competition testing on August 19, 2003 during the training of the Bulgarian team of Rhythmic Gymnastics on the Sofia University campus.
A positive case involving furosemide was detected among the samples collected.
Further to the demand of the Bulgarian Federation of Gymnastics, the FIG had requested on September 16 that the designated, IOC-WADA accredited laboratory do an analysis of sample B. This second analysis confirmed on September 23 the results of the first sample.
This control and examination procedure achieved, the FIG is able to release that this doping case involes the Bulgarian gymnast, Simona Peycheva.
In conformity with the current procedure, the file will be turned over to the Disciplinary Commission of the FIG for ruling on.

... still the day before GYMmedia pronounced:
>> Three-time title holder Simona Peycheva injured
Bad news from the Bulgarian Team: Three-time title holder Simona Peycheva has arrived in Budapest but due to an injury will be able to experience the competitions only in the audience. This is a pity for these Championships as the bubbly Bulgarian is one of the most expressive personalities among the current top gymnasts.
So all hopes for Bulgaria are now concentrated on the 16-year-old Elisabeth Paisieva who has continually made her way to the top during the last weeks.

Unusual role: Simona Peycheva in the audience

23-09-03: Preview from Budapest:
Today from early in the morning till late at night training sessions take place in the newly opened Sports Arena so that all 49 participating delegations will be able to adjust to the conditions in the venue. And those are very good. The venue is modern, convenient and quite a “hotspot-area”: W-LAN in the press center as well as in the competition arena, free use of internet PC’s for all accredited journalists! What a difference to the artistic gymnastics World Championships in Anaheim: If you thought about technically seen being put back decades in time there, you now in Budapest have the impression of being put into the future. High tech in favor of these World Championships – even before they have started.

>> 23-Sep-2003:

Takes part in these Championships twice: Natalia Godunko

Training for all gymnasts - Double job for Natalia Godunko

Except for Simona all big names can be found in the start lists of tomorrow’s competition. And the favorites for the team title – Russia with Kabaeva and Tchachina and Ukraine with Bessonova and Yerofeeva - impressively called for attention today.
So three-time European Champion Anna Bessonova presented to the observing insider-audience a new clubs routine and practiced again and again her hoop routine with which she wants to win the gold medal in tomorrow’s apparatus final…
Natalia Godunko from Ukraine is the gymnast with the hardest schedule of these Championships: She starts with her four routines in the individual competition – and has quite good chances there – and also belongs to the Ukrainian group. A mammoth program for the 17-year-old talent who certainly will please the Budapest audience with her exceptional looks and routines.

23-Sep-2003:  The WCh’s will start tomorrow...

...with the first part of the team competition which also will be the qualification for all further competitions.
All individual gymnasts show their routines with hoop and ball. Altogether 114 gymnasts will start in tomorrow’s competition.

The first decisions of these World Championships will be made in the evening with the finals hoop and ball.
