Men's Trampoline
The Individual Qualifying rounds in the Trampolining discipline have drawn to a
close, and general interest is heavily-focused on who has qualified for next year's
Olympic Games in Sydney. Of particular note is that Markus Wiesner (SUI) has
qualified for the Olympics, as has Ji Wallace of Australia. Both might have been
considered as outsiders going into this event today, but have proved their worth and have
made the line-up for Sydney.
In other respects the selection for the Men's Individual final is generally as predicted.
Alexandre Moskalenko (RUS) stands in first place with 69.50, having
performed an excellent voluntary routine: 40.90, with a difficulty of 14.0.
Nikolai Kazak (BLR) who was hotly tipped for this event, is lying in second
place and one slight mistake from Moskalenko could even see Kazak take the gold.
Dmitri Poliarouch (BLR), in third position going into the Final, also did
exceptionally well.
Vladimir Kakorko of Belarus and David Martin of France are both
holding the same overall score, with an identical difficulty result, but the technical
rule in this tie-break situation is that Kakorko beats Martin into fourth position thanks
to his superior voluntary score.
The atmosphere in the Superbowl has definitely moved up a gear in anticipation of
tonight's Trampolining Team Final when the teams from Belarus,
Russia, Germany, Canada and France will meet. All the teams will start from a zeroscore,
meaning that anything could happen.
Women's Trampoline
Irina Karavaeva (RUS) the strong favourite, was
particularly outstanding in the first two flights and leads by the quite considerable
margin of 1.2 marks. Perhaps surprising is the second place position gained by Oksana
Tsyhuleva (UKR), but with the marks she has achieved in this preliminary round
she certainly has a good chance of a medal. Tsyhuleva lies two points ahead of Anna
Dogonadze-Lilkendey (GER), who in turn has proved her worth with this commendable
result. Her team-mate Tina Ludwig joins her in the final. Natalia
Karpenkova (BLR) scored 66.60 for her fourth placing and Jaime Moore
(GBR) has qualified in seventh place.
The teams competing in the Women's Team final are Russia,
Ukraine, Belarus, Germany and Great Britain.
