RSG World Championships live on the Internet 
The official RSG World Championships web site on the Internet was accessed 50,000 times during the competitions in Berlin. All the results of the competitions were fed into the Internet immediately after the end of the competitions and more than 50 up-to-date pictures were presented. Many media organisations from Germany and abroad availed of this worldwide most up-to-date service of results. 

‘Red 2 pro’ of Claudio Gärtner and the ‘GYMmedia’ agency, who look after the official web site of the World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics, also invited gymnasts for a live discussion with fans around the world via the Internet, after the respective competitions, for instance, the Russian world champions, or Edita Schaufler and Lena Asmus. ARENA presented this comprehensive service.

Chief Coach Erika Akiyama about her Gymnasts and the Championships of 1999:
Ms Akiyama, the Japanese team came 8th in the team finals yesterday, the gymnasts Rieko Matunaga and Yukari Murata went through to the finals on Saturday. Are you satisfied with the performance in Berlin? 

Oh yes, very much so. We have been able to show that gymnastics from Japan is among the world’s best. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen much of Berlin - only this beautiful hall. But this is the place of our greatest success so far - we love Berlin.

Am letzten Abend der WM,
als die Revue "Joker" zu Ende war,
die mit Show-Vorführungen der
Weltmeisterinnen, der deutschen
National-Gruppe und von Edita Schaufler
ergänzt wurde, hörte man nur Superlative.

Die 1800 Zuschauer waren begeistert von der Verbindung, die das berühmte Revuetheater mit der Rhythmischen Sportgymnastik eingegangen war.

Diese Begeisterung, die Freude über die gelungenen Weltmeisterschaften
und die Party-Atmosphäre im gesamten Friedrichstadtpalast verhalfen allen Beteiligten zu einem unvergesslichen Abschlussabend der 21. Weltmeisterschaften in Berlin.

Herzlichen Dank der Leitung des Hauses und allen, die am Zustandekommen dieses Abends beteiligt waren! 
RSG-WM war life im Internet 

Rund 50.000 Zugriffe auf die offiziellen RSG-WM-Seiten im Internet gab es während der Wettkämpfe in Berlin. Alle Wettkampfergebnisse wurden direkt nach den Wettkämpfen ins Netz gestellt und über 50 aktuelle Bilder von den Wettkämpfen präsentiert. Viele Redaktionen im In –und Ausland griffen auf diesen weltweit aktuellsten Ergebnisdienst zu.  

Das Red 2 pro Redaktionsbüro Claudio Gärtner und die Agentur GYMmedia, die die offiziellen Internetseiten der Weltmeisterschaften der Rhythmischen Sportgymnastik im Internet betreuten, luden außerdem nach jedem Wettkampf Athletinnen zum Lifegespräch mit Interessierten auf der ganzen Welt via Internet, z.B. die russischen Weltmeisterinnen, oder Edita Schaufler und Lena Asmus. ARENA präsentiert diesen umfangreichen Service.  

RSG-WM in Osaka 1999  

Die nächsten Einzel-Weltmeisterschaften in der Rhythmischen Sportgymnastik finden 1999 in Osaka statt. Die japanische Delegation hatte dementsprechend besonderes Augenmerk auf die Organisation der Wettkämpfe in Berlin. Mit Platz 8 im Mannschaftsfinale und zwei Mehrkampffinalteilnahmen sind die Japanerinnen sehr zufrieden mit dem Abschneiden in Berlin. "Wir haben zeigen können, daß Gymnastik aus Japan zur Weltspitze gehört. Wir haben zwar nicht viel in Berlin gesehen – nur diese schöne Halle. Aber es ist der Ort unseres bisher größten Erfolges – wir lieben Berlin", sagte Auswahltrainerin Erika Akiyama.

"Wir freuen uns sehr, die besten Gymnastinnen der Welt bei uns begrüßen zu dürfen. Es werden die ersten WM in Japan sein, ein ganz besonderer Höhepunkt. Es waren ja Beobachter unseres Vorbereitungskomitees hier in Berlin – wir werden uns bemühen, ähnlich schöne Meisterschaften in Osaka auszutragen."

What is the status of gymnastics in Japan? 
It is a very popular sport for young girls. The halls are always filled to capacity at competitions. You were able to hear for yourself at this venue that our fans are very enthusiastic. Some five or six media organisations are represented here, just to report on the World Championships. Gymnastics is very popular, we are the most successful team in Asia. 

What are the goals you have set yourself together with Rieko Matunaga?
To be among the best ten gymnasts of the world at the Olympic Games in Sydney is what we dream of. 

How do you spot your talents and how do Japanese girls train? 
"I ‘went to school’ for a year with Ms Viner in Russia and with Ms Krylenko in Belarus, and I was able to learn a lot there. To go to the primary schools yourself off and on to spot some talents yourself. I found Rieko, our most successful gymnasts at the moment, that way. But the usual way would be for the parents or the grandparents to bring their girls to us. There are no specialised sports schools as in Russia, the girls attend normal schools and train in the afternoons. About five to six hours a day, and even more before championships.
There are some 130 girls and young women training at the Women’s Academic Sports Club in Tokyo, under the guidance of seven coaches. 

The coming World Championships will take place in the Japanese city of Osaka.
We are very happy indeed to be able to welcome the best gymnasts of the world. These will be the first world championships in Japan, a very special highlight. Observers of our Preparatory Committee have come to Berlin - we will undertake every effort to stage similarly nice championships in Osaka.
