JUNIORS: Two clear medals for Russia in the juniors’ competition

As
well Maxim Deviatovski as
also his fellow gymnast Anton Golotsutskov were the two clear winners
from Patras. In no part during the competition the other competitors
could have beaten them.
From
the 2nd apparatus on they didn’t have any instabilities in
their routines and only competed in their own Russian duel until the end
of the competition. Only on the last apparatus Maxim Deviatovski managed
to decide the competition in favour of himself: He presented on floor a
routine with the score of 9.350 while Anton Golotsutskov only received
the score of 8.725 on high bar. So only in this rotation the competition
was decided by 7 tenth of a point. In the very near future these two
boys will be a tremendous support of the Russian senior national team!

Berlin’s
René Piephardt today
presented the best competition of his life – without any mistakes at
all – he even improved his performance from the qualification! He
couldn’t reach the 2 Russians who were in front of him but since the 4th
apparatus René was on the 3rd place. However, all gymnasts
up to rank 7 still had the chance to win the bronze medal, the
difference was only about 2 tenth of a point. Even Fabian Hambüchen who
was 5th after the first half of the competition only was
about this difference behind “Piepe”. However, again the layout
Jaeger with 1/1 turn from el-grip was a tricky point during his high bar
routine and, not for the first time at this element, he fell from the
bar. But Hambüchen managed to improve well on floor where he received
the highest score of all competitors on this apparatus: 9.4. This
secured him rank 7.
On
the last apparatus
it once again was a tight competition for René: After he securely
nailed the landing of his layout Tsukahara dismount on high bar and
received the score of 9.112 for this routine, Dmitri Savitsky form
Belarus started on floor. He stepped out of bounds twice – and
received the score of 9.200, but stayed the “tiny little bit” of 12
thousandths behind Piephardt:

for Germany in the all-around, the last time this had happened was in
1994 (Sergej Pfeifer).
Comment
from René’s coach from Berlin Jens Milbradt: “Now
we both know that the last three years have been worth everything, even
though they were absolutely not easy. To go through those fights, the
persistence and consistency on both sides paid off in the end. I take my
hat off to René who through this has proved
that in Germany there is not only Fabian Hambüchen or Waldemar
Eichorn. This should also encourage other young gymnasts..!”
