Second
gold for Romania
Steliana
Nistor took the second gold medal for the Romanian team by
winning the junior all-around title.
Junior
All-around Champion 2004:
Steliana
Nistor
She was only a member of the Romanien silver team of juniors.
|
The only one of the top contenders
to get through four pieces of apparatus without any major mistakes, the
tiny Nistor was excellent on beam and finished on floor with a strong
routine (double layout, full-in, 2 ½ twist punch front layout, triple
twist). “I felt much better today than in the team competition and I
really wanted to have a good result,” she commented.
Italy’s
Vanessa Ferrari fell on her piked
Jaeger, but was very impressive on floor with a 10 start value and
tumbled a ff-tucked full on beam. “I was a bit nervous after the fall
because I felt I might end up in a low ranking.” |

Yulia Lozhechko (RUS)
|
Yulia
Lozhechko, similar in style and manner to Svetlana Khorkina,
looked set for the title after a strong vault and excellent bars routine.
A fall on her standing Arabian put an end to her dreams but she still
did enough on floor to stay in the bronze medal position.
Aisling
Williams, a club mate of Beth Tweddle’s, missed out on a
medal but was extremely happy with her fourth place and capped of her
competition with a good 1 ½ twisting Yurchenko. Sandra Izbasa fell from
beam on a side somi and only managed a 9,4 start value on bars.

German
Annika Pfeffer >>
coached by Tamara Kholova mentor to 1996
Olympian Yelena Dologoolova, fell on her very first skill (full-in on
floor) but won back some ground with a good bars set (stalder-Tkachev-Pak)
to finish 16th.
