World Cup events are the apparatus specialists’ field of play: No team and no all-around
competition, but what a mastery on each piece of apparatus and what a joy for the
audience! To qualify for the FIG World Cup Final, a gymnast must participate in a minimum
of three competitions, which take place in different continents.

COMING BACK HOME…
The 1st World Cup competition under the FIG, organised by BAGA, was held at Wembley, London, Great Britain in 1975. Following London, World Cup competitions were organised in 1977 (Oviedo/ESP), 1978 (Sao Paolo/BRA), 1979 (Tokio, JAP), 1980 (Toronto, CAN), 1982 (Zagreb, YUG), 1986 (Beijing/CHN)and 1990 (Brussels/BEL). This is where “the old” history of the World Cup ends.

Said and quickly done, the Japanese city of Sabae saw the
first World Cup Final at the end of 1998.

In 1998 the FIG Congress in Villamura, took the decision to resume the World Cup events-
this time under new rules: a number of World Cup series events to be carried out over a
two year period of time, and a Final organised at the end of every even year.
