25-Sep-2011Montpellier, France * last but not least: The Groups Finals ...
The 31st World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Montpellier finished on Sunday afternoon with the group finals.
The best eight groups with 5 hoops, as well as with 3 ribbons and 2 hoops competed for the last time in the Park&Suites Arena in order to crown the new world champions with apparatus.
The favorites from Russia, who couldn´t stand the pressure yesterday at the all-around and had to let pass Italy, seemed to be overtaxed with the expectations put into them. They won gold with a perfect ball routine, but in the mixed they couldn´t place better than sixth. Italy won two silver medals and bronze in the ball final went to Bulgaria, the group that became the new world champion in the final with ribbons and hoops. Belarus for the first time couldn´t win any medals at a World Championship at the group events…

The 31st World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Montpellier finishes with the groups finals. The best eight groups with 5 hoop and 3 ribbons and 2 hoops competed on Sunday afternoon in order to crown the new world champions with apparatus.
Today, with far less pressure than yesterday at the all-around – as this event was the qualifying competition for the Olympic Games – all groups seemed more relaxed and made hardly any mistakes at the 5 balls finals.
Russia won the final with 5 balls with a faultless routine getting 28.000 points. Italy scored a little less than yesterday with 27.000 points and the Bulgarian group won their second bronze medal scoring 26.950 points followed by Belarus whose gymnasts again placed on the unlucky fourth rank.

Bulgaria is world champion again for the first time since Baku 2005 with five ribbons!
The Bulgarian group was the last to perform at the mixed routine final, all other groups failed and they knew that with a perfect routine they could get gold. The pressure must have been enormous, but the five girls could stand it and performed excellent - a lot of tears of joy were shred on the podium.
In the mixed routine final the gymnasts seemed quite tired, especially the top groups like Italy and Russia made a lot of mistakes. Russia did a very unlucky routine with several knots and drops scoring only 25.000 points placing only sixth. Italy also had two drops with ribbon, but as the rest of the routine was faultless, they still scored 26.725 points and could get silver. The Israeli group in their only final did a nice routine and scored 26.675, enough for bronze and a little consolation fter the missed Olympic qualification yesterday.
The Swiss group competed at their first final at a world championship showing a good mixed routine without mistakes getting 25.800 points and placed on an unexpected fourth place. Germany didn´t make big mistakes, but the gymnasts slightly had to wait for each other before a body element that all five gymnasts have to perform together –the reason they scored less than yesterday. Japan and China made many mistakes, China getting a knot between a hoop and a ribbon just at the starting of the routine that caused an interruption of several seconds in the routine. Belarus couldn´t even enter the final after yesterday´s mistakes at the all-around.
1- Bulgaria 27.400 2- Italy 26.725
3- Israel 26.675 4- Switzerland 25.800
5- Germany 25.575

7- Japan 24.500
8- China 23.625
