31st WORLDS of RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS 2011 - Montpellier, Monday, September 19th - _________________________________________________
* MONDAY, Sep 19 * Individual Qualification and Team All-Around
The competition CI is at the same time the team-event, where each nation can send up to four gymnast that perform 12 exercises, but it´s also the individual qualification for for all gymnasts, those that compete with their team and those that don´t have this valuable support, for the apparatus finals on Tuesday and Thursday and for individual all-around on Friday.
On Friday the first 15 starting spots for the Olympic Games will be assigned directly to the first fifteen individual gymnasts of this event.
While the gold in the team event seems to be given already to Russia, with their nearly unbeatable gymnasts - and the silver medal most likely will go to Belarus if nothing unforeseen happens, only the fight about bronze will be very close between the Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
Nevertheless, the advantage for Russia is not so big as usual after the first day due to a big mistake of Daria Dmitrieva who missed a catch - her ball even fell off the podium where the competition floor is built on.
One of the oldest (26 years) but most expirienced gymnast, the French Delphine Ledoux, was the first gymnast starting at the first day of these worlds: ** F.I.G. VIDEO Channel --:
Evgenia Kanaeva and Daria Kondakova, the other two Russian team components showed their programmes with the usual precision and cleanliness and both lead the individual ranking, followed by Aliya Garaeva (AZE), who already competed in the morning, Melitina Staniouta and Liubov Charkashyna (both BLR). ** F.I.G. While the difference between second placed Daria Kondakova and Garaeva on third is already 0.825 points, Silviya Miteva (BUL) on eighth place lays only 0.700 points behind Garaeva. The competitor´s field behind the two Russian is extremely close what will make the decision about the bronze medal on Friday at the all-around very interesting.
* TUESDAY, Sep 20 - Part II of Qualification hoop and Ball
The Russian dominance in rhythmic gymnastics is absolute, it´s almost the national sport for little girls and the reservoir of gymnasts seems endless. Each year they present new talents at the competitions and only the Belorussian team can keep up with them.
The training conditions in Moscow for the gymnasts are the best in the world and they have a powerful sponsor with Russian gas- and oil- giant Gazprom that allows them to focus completely on the sport - conditions that no other country can offer their gymnasts.
Considerably are the 151.400 points for the team of South Korea that seems to be the new raising nation in rhythmic gymnastics. The Korean Federation does big efforts in progressing in this sport, e.g. sending their gymnasts to train in Moscow to achieve good results.
* TUESDAY, Sep 20 - Apparatus Finals Hoop and Ball
In the evening, from 20h local time the first medal decisions will take place, the apparatus finals for the best eight gymnasts with hoop and ball. Exactly like in the team event, the two Russian girls (only two gymnasts per country are allowed in the finals) will be hard to beat, but the fight for bronze will be very interesting as nearly all other six gymnasts might have the chance to win the medal if they do perfect routines.
** GYMmedia will publish a summary after the end of each qualification rounds.
