Kanaeva wins Toshiba Trophy in Barcelona

This Saturday afternoon, June 18, the 2nd International Trophy - Toshiba City of Barcelona took place in the Olympc Arena Vall d'Hebron of 1992.

Evgenia Kanaeva
from Russia won ahead of Alina Maksimenko representing Ukraine and Silvia Miteva the topical best Bulgarian athlete.

For most of the gymnasts it was the first international competition after a short break after the European championships in Minsk at the end of May...

...nevertheless the audience in the fully packed Vall d'Hebron Olympic arena could enjoy great sport. As expected and with three marks over 29.000 points, Russian Olympic champion Evgenia Kanaeva was the big star in Barcelona today.

But this time the most acclaimed by the audience was Almudena Cid, Spain's four-times Olympic participant, four-times Olympic finalist and two Olympic diplomas, beside countless other titles.
The Catalonian Federation, organiser of the tournament, took the opportunity to give a tribute to their best gymnast ever (Almudena Cid trained in Barcelona from 2001 to 2008) with a video prepared by Almudena's mother Mina and a speech of her coach Iratxe Aurrekoetxea, that not only made Almudena cry.
